Bong Go celebrates post-birthday with indigents from Marikina and Rizal
A day after his birthday, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go personally led a distribution activity for impoverished residents from Marikina City and from San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal on Thursday, 15 June. Go and his team conducted the relief operation at Marikina City Sports Complex for a total of 3,000 residents. To ensure a more organized distribution, the beneficiaries were split into three groups. Residents from Marikina City and Rodriguez, Rizal were brought to the basketball and tennis courts, respectively, while those from San Mateo gathered in another covered area in the complex. All beneficiaries received grocery packs, masks, snacks, and vitamins from Senator Go’s office while the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended them financial assistance. Additionally, the senator's team provided bicycles, shoes, mobile phones, watches, shirts, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select individuals. In his speech, Go commended the exemplary dedication and tireless efforts of the local officials in Marikina City and in San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal. The senator highlighted their unwavering commitment to promoting the welfare and well-being of their constituents and acknowledged their invaluable contributions in fostering progress and development in their respective areas. “Parati namin naririnig na pinapasalamatan kami sa mga proyekto, sa mga tulong. Sa totoo lang po, huwag kayong magpasalamat sa amin. Ako po ay isang probinsiyano lamang (katulad ni) dating pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte na binigyan niyo ng pagkakataon na makapagserbisyo sa inyo, kaya ako po ang dapat magpasalamat. Maraming-maraming salamat po,” Go expressed. “Hindi ko po sasayangin yung pagkakataon na ibinigay niyo sa amin. Magtatrabaho po ako para sa Pilipino. Sanay po ako sa trabaho. Umaga pa lang, tanghali, hapunan, kahit sa panaginip ay nagtatrabaho po ako dahil yan na ang nakagawian ko noon pa — ang pagtatrabaho at pagseserbisyo,” he underscored. During the event, Go was joined by officials from Marikina City, including Congresswoman Maan Teodoro and Mayor Marcy Teodoro; as well as the local officials from both towns in Rizal, such as Rodriguez Mayor Ronnie Evangelista and San Mateo Mayor Bartolome “Omie” Rivera Jr., among others. Continuing his message, Go, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, encouraged all Filipinos to avail themselves of the medical assistance provided by the 158 Malasakit Centers established across the country. Recognizing the importance of accessible healthcare for every Filipino, particularly poor and indigent patients, Go tirelessly advocates for more Malasakit Centers to ensure that no one is left behind in times of medical emergencies, saying, “Alam n’yo ang Malasakit Center po, batas na ‘yan na isinulong ko noon, pinirmahan ni dating pangulong Duterte. It’s a one-stop shop, nasa loob na ho ng ospital (ang mga ahensyang may medical assistance programs). Hanapin n’yo ‘yung karatulang Malasakit Center.” “At kung kailangan n’yo po ng tulong mula sa opisina ko sa pagpapaopera ninyo, sabihan n’yo lang po ang aking opisina, tutulong po ako sa abot ng aking makakaya pati pamasahe n’yo po, tutulungan ho namin,” he continued. In Marikina City, residents may seek assistance from the Malasakit Center at Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center. Meanwhile, Rizal province has four Malasakit Centers at Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Hospital in Rodriguez, Margarito A. Duavit Memorial Hospital in Binangonan; Antipolo City Hospital System Annex IV (Mambugan); and Bagong Cainta Municipal Hospital in Cainta. Go has also been instrumental in promoting the establishment of Super Health Centers to ensure that more Filipinos have access to basic healthcare services. There will be four Super Health Centers in the city of Marikina while there will be one each in Rodriguez and San Mateo. Said centers will offer database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy, and ambulatory surgical unit. Other services that will be available in Super Health Centers are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service; oncology centers; physical therapy and rehabilitation center; and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done. Still in line with his advocacy to bolster the health sector, Go, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported the acquisition of medical equipment for Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina City. He also supported the rehabilitation of a multipurpose building in the city. Earlier that day, Go was in Quezon City where he joined Councilor Mikey Belmonte and Mayor Joy Belmonte in the inauguration of two multi-purpose buildings which he supported for funding before as Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance. He also spearheaded another relief operation for a thousand disadvantaged residents in Quezon City. Regional Specialty Centers eyed
Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, author and principal sponsor of the Regional Specialty Center bill, recently stressed the significance of these facilities in providing accessible and specialized healthcare services to Filipinos across the country. In an ambush interview after attending the groundbreaking for the Super Health Center in Digos City, the lawmaker explained that the primary objective of these specialty centers is to bridge the gap between the people and essential specialized healthcare services. To recall, Congress on 31 May ratified the Bicameral Conference Report on the Regional Specialty Centers Act and the measure will soon be transmitted to the Office of the President for the approval of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. By establishing these specialty centers in various regional hospitals, Go believes that it will alleviate the burden faced by patients who have to travel to Manila and other urban areas for specialized treatments. He also said that the Department of Health will identify the regional hospitals capable of housing the specialty centers. The senator stressed the importance of bringing medical services closer to Filipinos who may face challenges in accessing healthcare in Metro Manila. Many citizens lack the means to travel to the capital, have no relatives there, and face additional expenses such as transportation, accommodation and food. With the establishment of the Regional Specialty Center, patients will have the opportunity to receive top-notch medical care from government health facilities in their own regions, saving them time, money and effort. Go also revealed plans to expand specialized medical services at the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City to include renal care, brain and spine treatment, and orthopedic services, eliminating the need for patients to travel to the Philippine Orthopedic Center in Quezon City, for example. According to the DoH’s timeline, the establishment of specialty centers in National Capital Region will take place in Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center, Quirino Memorial Medical Center, East Avenue Medical Center, Tondo Medical Center, Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Valenzuela Medical Center, Las Piñas General Hospital and Satellite Trauma Center, Rizal Medical Center, and Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium. He also said that the Department of Health will identify the regional hospitals capable of housing the specialty centers. In Luzon, specialty centers will be established in Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, Region I Medical Center, Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center, Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, Cagayan Valley Medical Center, Region II Trauma and Medical Center, Southern Isabela Medical Center, Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center, Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center, Mariveles Mental Wellness and General Hospital, Batangas Medical Center, Ospital ng Palawan, Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital, Bicol Medical Center, Bicol Region General Hospital, Geriatric Medical Center, Bicol Medical Center, and Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center. The Visayas region will witness the creation of specialty centers in Western Visayas Medical Center, Western Visayas Sanitarium and General Hospital, Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Medical Center and Eastern Visayas Medical Center. In Mindanao, specialty centers will be established in Zamboanga City Medical Center, Northern Mindanao Medical Center, Mayor Hilarion A. Ramiro Sr. Medical Center, Southern Philippines Medical Center, Davao Regional Medical Center, Cotabato Regional and Medical Center, Caraga Regional Hospital, Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center, and Amai Pakpak Medical Center. DDR creation to bolster disaster response: Go
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go renewed his call for the passage of his proposed Senate Bill 188, or the creation of the Department of Disaster Resilience. The DDR is a specialized department that would be solely responsible for managing the country’s disaster response and mitigation efforts. “We should always be one step ahead whenever there is a disaster. We cannot avoid earthquakes or typhoons, but we should be always prepared so that we can avoid greater damage,” Go said. Senate Bill 188, he said, seeks to address the long-standing issues and challenges in disaster management, including the lack of coordination among government agencies and the absence of a clear chain of command during emergencies because essential functions and mandates are currently spread out to various disaster-related agencies. “We really need to scale up preparedness and resiliency against disasters. That’s why as your senator, I will continue to fight for these proposals and I believe that this is for the good of our country,” he said. If enacted into law, Go said the cabinet secretary-level department shall concentrate on three significant areas — disaster risk reduction, disaster preparedness and response, and recovery and building forward better. He said going around the country to extend aid to Filipinos affected by fire, earthquake, flood, tornado, and volcanic eruption is a fulfillment of a promise. “I’ll go to you as long as I have the time and chance. I help as much as I can, provide a solution to their problems like a sustainable project that would benefit the community, and be able to leave a little smile during your difficulties,” he added. In the wake of the devastation brought by the recent Tropical Depression “Amang,” Go said disaster preparedness must be intensified even more. In support of DDR’s functions and responsibilities, the proposed measure also provides for the creation of an Integrated Disaster Resilience Information System or IDRIS which will serve as a database of all relevant disaster risk reduction and climate change information. Go also filed Senate Bill 1709 aimed at providing hazard pay to disaster response personnel nationwide, considering how dangerous their roles are during disasters. It proposes to amend the provisions of the “Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010” to mandate the local government units to grant a P3,000 monthly hazard pay to the personnel of their respective Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices and Barangay Risk Reduction and Management Committees, and all accredited community disaster volunteers during a State of Calamity declared by the President. “Rescuers and volunteers play a huge role during calamities and disasters because they are the ones who risk their lives to keep our countrymen safe,” Go said. He added: “They deserve to be given proper compensation. Give what is due to them.” The post DDR creation to bolster disaster response: Go appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Bong Go advocates for the creation of DDR
Sen. Bong Go renewed his call for the passage of Senate Bill No. 188, or his proposed Disaster Resilience bill. The proposed legislation aims to create the Department of Disaster Resilience, a specialized department that would be solely responsible for managing the country's disaster response and mitigation efforts. Go highlighted that if the bill is enacted, the cabinet secretary-level department shall concentrate on three significant areas, such as disaster risk reduction, disaster preparedness and response, and recovery and building forward better. To support the DDR’s functions and responsibilities, the proposed measure also provides for the creation of an Integrated Disaster Resilience Information System (IDRIS) which will serve as a database of all relevant disaster risk reduction and climate change information.
