Do-it-all Harvey Pagsanjan offers UE reason to hope in UAAP 82

Already armed with its foundational foreign student-athlete and Filipino-Kiwi, University of the East turned its attention to testing the local waters. In doing so, the Red Warriors have gotten a big fish for themselves in the form of Hope Christian High School standout Harvey Pagsanjan. “Sa UE ko na po napiling mag-college,” he said on Thursday. Pagsanjan has been the main man for the Manila-based high school in the last three years. Last year, he led them to the title in the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Championship. A 6-foot-1 guard, he has delivered the goods wherever his team needs it – whether it be scoring at one end and then cleaning the glass on the other. More importantly, he has consistently proven the ability to make plays for himself as well as his teammates. In last year’s National Basketball Training Center National Finals, Pagsanjan singlehandedly shot Hope to the Sweet 16. Now, he will no longer have to do such thing as, with the Red Warriors, he will play alongside Senegalese Alex Diakhite and Fil-Kiwi Ritchie Rodgers as well as stalwarts Philip Manalang and Alvin Pasaol. Even more, the 19-year-old is just the first domino to fall in what head coach Joe Silva is plotting to be a big-time offseason for the red and white. “The first of many,” he said. Pagsanjan is UE’s first blue-chip recruit in recent history. The school’s last was Paul Lee. --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @riegogogo......»»
