BI assures enough manpower at departure area
Amid concerns over the crowding at the airport’s immigration departure area, the Bureau of Immigration assured the public Thursday that it has enough staff to assist those who will fly out of Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. In his statement, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said that the immigration booths in NAIA 3 are always fully manned as the bureau has already beefed up the number of BI officers deployed at the premiere port. Tansingco added that although their manpower at the airport is more than enough, these long queues of passengers could not be avoided due to many factors, foremost of which is the recent transfer of several airlines from NAIA 1 to NAIA 3 that resulted from the impending shutdown of international flight operations at NAIA 2. The BI chief disclosed that the recent transfer to NAIA 3 of China Southern Airlines, Gulf Air, Jeju Air, Thai Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Jetstar, Starlux and Scoot has caused a 10-percent increase in the average number of passengers who depart from NAIA 3 daily. Tansingco also attributed the congestion problem at NAIA 3 to other factors, such as limited space, flight delays and diversions caused by bad weather, and the frequent declaration of lighting alerts that result in the simultaneous disembarkation of passengers from affected flights. “We are constantly coordinating our efforts with the Manila International Airport Authority in seeking the best solution to address this perennial problem of overcrowding in our immigration areas at the NAIA,” the BI chief added. “Among these are the installation of additional BI counters and expanding the space of our departure area.” He reiterated that the BI has already addressed its previous problem of manpower shortage in light of the continuous hiring by the bureau of new immigration inspectors. “In fact, due to the augmentation of our manpower, we have granted the request of our airport terminal heads outside Metro Manila, such as those in Clark, Mactan, and Davao, by reassigning immigration officers to their turfs, Tansingco said. CIAC conducts Mactan-Cebu airport studies
CLARK FREEPORT — To further improve the agency’s oversight functions of the Clark International Airport, the Clark International Airport Corporation has conducted benchmark studies regarding the success of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport operations. According to CIAC president Joshua Bingcang, the agency’s management team held a benchmarking dialogue and information exchange with officials of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority in Lapu-Lapu City last 24 May. He added that both agencies are attached under the Department of Transportation and independently assigned to exercise oversight functions over privately-run airport operations. “We have similar roles in helping our respective private airport operators succeed, so we have chosen Cebu airport and MCIAA management as benchmark, to determine performance standards and to identify best practices in airport operations, tasks which the MCIAA so far are performing effectively, and which we intend to replicate,” Bingcang said. Mactan-Cebu Airport was named as Asia’s Best Airport among 200 airports in the Asia Pacific under the ‘5 million passenger category’ in the 2023 Routes Asia Awards and is currently operated by the GMR Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. “While the private consortium Luzon International Premier Airport Development Corp. operates the Clark airport,” said Bingcang. “Our functions must align with the evolving needs and expectations of passengers and stakeholders of the Clark airport so we have created an oversight team to further study and compare Clark airport operation’s metrics using the MCIAA’s monitoring practices in evaluating the performance of its private airport operator.” “In turn, we’ll collectively analyze what the effective measures are, and which processes may improve efficiency to boost revenues for the Clark airport’s private operator LIPAD,” he added. The CIAC’s oversight roles include the assurance that the airport facility is operated and maintained safely and securely in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization standards and must conform to regulations set by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, and other safety and security rules. As of 15 May, the Clark airport services 17 international flights over 11 destinations and nine domestic routes with 14 flights. CEB bolsters routes via Clark reboot
Pioneer budget airline Cebu Pacific or CEB restarted last 21 April 2023 its Clark hub by relaunching flights and increasing frequencies from Clark International Airport to strengthen connectivity for its passengers from north and central Luzon. CEB recently flew its inaugural flights from Clark to Bacolod, Boracay, Davao and Bangkok. The airline previously announced that it would operate a combined 15 destinations from its Clark hub. The relaunch allows Cebu Pacific to add 10,000 seats per month and lower fares for both domestic and international flights by 30 percent compared to the pre-pandemic average. It will also boost the airline’s network from its Clark hub and reestablish the alternate gateway’s significance for local and international travelers. 3 birds for Clark To support the expansion, CEB is set to take delivery of three additional aircraft which will be based in Clark. These are on top of the 10 new Airbus NEO aircraft that will be delivered in 2023 to expand the airline’s fleet. “The launch of our Clark flights was a fulfillment of Cebu Pacific’s mission to help make air travel more accessible and affordable for travelers in north and central Luzon. This expansion will give the traveling public more opportunities to explore the Philippines and the rest of the world,” Xander Lao, Cebu Pacific president and chief commercial officer said. Noel Manankil, president and chief Executive Officer of Luzon International Premier Airport Development, the private consortium that manages Clark International Airport, reiterated its support to CEB’s initiatives to grow its network and capacity from the station. “Clark International Airport and Cebu Pacific are working closely with each other to ensure a seamless experience for travelers. Our brand-new terminal is ready to welcome Cebu Pacific passengers traveling to and from the best domestic and international destinations and serve as the window to the Philippines for visitors coming from different parts of the world,” Manankil added. The Department of Tourism lauded CEB’s efforts in helping spur travel to Clark and the rest of the Philippines. The post CEB bolsters routes via Clark reboot appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
