CIDG seizes 53 unlicensed firearms
The Philippine National Police on Monday reported the confiscation of 53 firearms that resulted in the arrest of an unlicensed gun dealer in Marikina City. In a press conference held at Camp Crame, PNP chief Benjamin Acorda Jr. said the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group busted the unlicensed firearms on Friday in Marikina City and opted not to identify the suspect. The country’s top cop said the successful operation conducted by the CIDG is part of the aggressive security measures to ensure peaceful and orderly Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections. He said to prevent the use of unlicensed firearms as part of the directives to all PNP units to intensify their efforts against the proliferation of loose firearms and recognize the potential risks and threats, especially with the upcoming BSKE this month. Acorda said the CIDG armed with two search warrants issued by the Executive Judge of the Regional Trial Court, National Capital Judicial Region of Marikina in collaboration with other PNP units, swooped down on the residence and store of an unlicensed gun dealer which resulted in the recovery and confiscation of 26 long firearms, 27 short firearms, assorted ammunition, as well as major and minor parts, tools, and machines used in manufacturing firearms. Acorda said the arrested person had no license to operate a firearms business and had not submitted any application to the PNP’s Firearms and Explosives Office for dealing and manufacturing firearms. He said that based on the investigation revealed that the suspect uses his establishment and social media to trade unlicensed firearms wherein among his customers are high-profile gun enthusiasts, politicians with alleged private armies, and some uniformed personnel from the police and military.” “The person arrested is also involved in online selling and some of his clients are private individuals who are maintaining PAGs (private armed groups). That is what we are afraid of. So in line with that with the intention of keeping our BSKE and also our streets safer, for every firearm that we are confiscating and reducing, for each firearm that falls under the hands of criminals or especially those that are not licensed they are perceived to be not responsible gun owners. With every accomplishment we have now it means that our streets are safer, every reduction in that gun makes our community safer,” he said. BI operatives arrest S. Korean pretending to be Filipino
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported on Sunday the arrest of a South Korean who pretended to be Filipino. BI Intelligence Deputy Chief for Mindanao Melody Penelope Gonzales said that on 5 September, the Bureau conducted an operation at Sitio Mojon in Barangay Langub, Davao City, in coordination with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Region 11, the Police Station, and other government intelligence units, which resulted in the arrest of a Korean national who was identified as Kim Jinkoon, a 58-year-old male. Gonzales added that Kim was the subject of a mission order issued by BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco after being found to be a fugitive from justice in South Korea, facing a total of seven cases filed against him. The Bureau also learned that Kim’s passport had already been canceled by the South Korean government which makes him an undocumented alien. Kim was arrested following a report from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Region 11, when he presented himself as a Filipino and insisted on applying for a Philippine passport, presenting identification cards, and claiming that his name was Allan Sun Duran. Upon verification with the South Korean government, his cases in his country revealed that he is an undesirable alien. He initially resisted arrest, insisting that he was a Filipino, but records from the Korean government had shown him a fugitive. Later, Kim admitted that he obtained his Philippine birth certificate in 2008 through an unidentified Filipina fixer. Kim is now temporarily detained at the BI Davao District Office prior to his transfer to the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, where he will face immigration charges for overstaying and undesirability. We assure our media colleagues that the PNP prioritizes the security of those working in the media industry. The PNP Media Vanguards will directly oversee the course of investigation of this incident,” said the PNP official. Meantime, Police Regional Office Mimaropa has already formed Special Investigation Task Group to conduct thorough investigation into the shooting of a media representative that transpired on Wednesday morning. “The SITG is composed of experienced investigators from Oriental Mindoro Police Provincial Office to be led by P/Col. Santos said that the post the suspect wrote on social media — which was already deleted — showed the same thing that his supposed “idol” has done during his criminal rampage. “There is a Facebook post which we retrieved as it was screenshot by his relatives and the pattern is there with the same words of Jeffrey Dahmer,” Santos said. Historical records showed that Dahmer — also known as the Milwaukee cannibal or the Milwaukee monster — was an American serial killer and sex offender who killed 17 children during his time before he was arrested on 22 July 1991. He was beaten to death by a fellow inmate on 28 November 1994 inside the Columbia Correctional Institution, Portage, Wisconsin, United States of America. Santos revealed that some excerpts of the suspect’s post were similar to that of Dahmer’s earlier statements after his arrest. The Las Piñas Police chief also revealed that in Dahmer’s fashion, the teener supposedly took 28 photographs of the victim when he was laughing, crying and when he was put inside the washing machine when he was already lifeless. The suspect also allegedly sent the photographs to 28 kids in a group chat. The evidence was submitted to the prosecutors’ office to augment the case against the suspect. To recall, the child was reported missing on 26 May and his remains was discovered at around 7 a.m. on Sunday inside the house of the suspect in Kalamansi Street, Barangay CAA, Las Piñas City. Santos said the suspect’s mother reported the discovery of the kid’s decomposing body inside the washing machine. The police chief added that the suspect was already brought to the fiscal’s office for inquest proceedings and after that he was brought to Bahay Pag-asa in the city for interview subject to evaluation and recommendation of psychiatrist to determine if the minor suspect acted with discernment or he knew what he was doing. “In discernment, it means the suspect knew what he was doing that what he had done was wrong and if that will be determined, criminal proceedings will commence immediately upon the age of majority and that is 18,” Santos said. He added that the suspect will be transferred from Bahay Pag-asa to the jail facility of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. PNP fails to produce complainant in House probe
Officials of the Philippine National Police earned the ire of the House committee on public order and safety after it failed to present its deponent during the panel's Tuesday hearing on the arrest of a criminology student, whom the police said illegally possessed a caliber .45 gun and a grenade. "More often than not, don't you think you are being used by someone so that he can do what he wants with someone? How do you determine that? You have no idea who that civilian is. You can't even produce him here now," the panel's vice chairperson, Antipolo Rep. Romeo Acop, told Police Captain Elbert Santos. Santos is the deputy chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 4A intelligence division, from whom James Perez Tamayo, the complainant/deponent, sought assistance for the arrest of Julius Alcazar Francisco, a 22-year-old third-year criminology student at St. Vincent College in Cabuyao. According to the police, Tamayo was at Francisco's house when the latter pointed a gun at him after he refused to drink a glass of alcohol. Tamayo complained to the police, which launched surveillance proceedings against Francisco. CIDG 4A PCpl. Marc Glain Barbosa testified that he saw Francisco at about 30 to 40 meters away, without an upper garment and with a 45 caliber gun strapped to his waist. But Santa Rosa Rep. Dan Fernandez, the panel chairman, asked, "If it was 30 (to) 40 meters and you saw it, how can you tell us, Cpl. Barbosa, that the 45 (caliber) pistol is a real gun? How can you be sure that from a distance of 30 meters, Julius was wearing a real gun?" Barbosa replied that he had the training and knowledge necessary to verify the authenticity of the pistol. Francisco was apprehended on 17 March for illegal possession of firearms and explosives. A 45-caliber gun and a grenade were recovered during the warrant operation, according to the PNP. Francisco denied the accusations against and disclosed that the police had entered his family's house without a barangay consent and witness permission and failed to inform him of his Miranda rights. The search warrant was triggered by a photo of Francisco on Facebook where he was seen holding a pistol. But Francisco said it was simply a pellet gun he and his classmates used for their film project, and that the photo was taken in 2020. The police also said Tamayo was Francisco's classmate. But Francisco said there was no Tamayo in their block and the university's department. The post PNP fails to produce complainant in House probe appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
