It doesn’t take a Pinoy Henyo to know `TVJ is Eat Bulaga’
For Tito, Vic and Joey, something didn’t sound right about being “retained” as hosts in “Eat Bulaga,” a show they nurtured from obscurity 43 years ago into the Pinoy pop culture giant that it is now. So to even mention that word in reference to the fate of the show – after its new breed of producers announced changes – could be particularly grating for the legendary trio. “Alam mo masagwang pakinggan sa amin yung mare-retain kami…para bang pwede kaming sipain, eh kami nga ang Eat Bulaga eh,” said former senator Tito Sotto. Finally, TVJ broke its silence about the drama behind the long-running noontime show. And what a resounding statement it made. “There are two ways to seek. (One is) leave it as it is. It’s doing well. Leave it alone,” Sotto said in an interview with GMA Network. “The other road is…di na tayo pwedeng magsama pagka ganun. That’s the other course.” But there is another issue he raised beyond the sentimental: Money. Sotto bared in the interview the reported P400 million revenue from political ads that “vanished.” “We were informed that a little over P400M of political ads that were placed to Eat Bulaga vanished,” he said. “I think you better ask TAPE (EB producer Television and Production Exponents), hayaan mong sila sumagot nun.” He also claimed that TAPE owes his brother, “bossing” Vic Sotto and Joey de Leon at least P30 million each. That despite reporting to the Securities and Exchange Commission net earnings of P210 million in 2021 alone, according to Sotto. Now in the event of a break-up – yes, Sotto maintained that TAPE the producer is separate from Eat Bulaga the production – TVJ will be taking the brand with it wherever it goes. “Eat Bulaga belongs to Joey de Leon and the TVJ,” said Sotto. “If it’s a copyright issue, definitely it’s owned by Joey de Leon and the three of us. Siya nag-imbento ng pangalan eh. Uncontestable. Copyright or not, immaterial yun. Ask the lawyers.” A few days ago, TAPE CEO Bullet Jalosjos was interviewed on the same network, confirming what has been speculated over several weeks: Changes are afoot for EB. “So now we just want to assure the public and everyone else that we're coming up with a more improved 'Eat Bulaga!' Think bigger prizes, more exciting segments," Jalosjos said. Sotto said those changes are uncalled for considering that the show’s segments constantly evolve to cater to generations of fans. “Kelangan daw baguhin ang nagpapatakbo, at kailangan daw na i-reinvent ang Eat Bulaga,” said Sotto. ”At meron daw portion na bored sila. So papalitan mo ang portion kasi bored ka? Sabi ko nga, hindi naman ikaw ang audience ah.” The son of TAPE chairman, original EB producer Romeo Jalosjos, reiterated in that interview that the show can’t do away without TVJ. "Well, they've (TVJ) always been a part and they will always be a part of 'Eat Bulaga.' So kahit baligtarin natin hindi talaga sila pwedeng mawala sa 'Eat Bulaga.' And 'Eat Bulaga!' cannot live without TVJ. And I think, personally, in my opinion also, that TVJ also cannot live without 'Eat Bulaga'” Jalosjos added. Meantime, the situation in the show remains fluid. “Let’s give it a try,” Sotto said. “Nothing is written in stone.” The post It doesn’t take a Pinoy Henyo to know `TVJ is Eat Bulaga’ appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
