Managing inflation is top concern of most Filipinos: survey
Managing inflation or increase in the prices of goods and services remains the top concern of most Filipinos, a Pulse Asia survey revealed on Tuesday. The recent Pulse Asia survey conducted from 19 June to 23 June 2023, revealed that the percentage of Filipinos, which stands at 63 percent, who consider controlling inflation as their primary concern. The issue of managing inflation, which pertains to the rate of price increase for consumer goods and services, is also the top priority across all income brackets. It garnered the highest level of concern among respondents in class ABC, with 67 percent expressing it, followed by 63 percent in Class E and 62 percent in Class D. The second most significant concern is the need to increase workers' wages, with 44 percent of respondents emphasizing this. This is followed by the desire for better job opportunities, accounting for 31 percent, and poverty reduction at 30 percent. Fighting against graft and corruption occupies the fifth position on the list of concerns, with 25 percent of respondents highlighting its importance. Other concerns raised by Filipinos include combatting criminality (13 percent), fostering peace within the country (11 percent), supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs (10 percent), reducing citizen taxes (7 percent), addressing environmental degradation (7 percent), safeguarding national territorial integrity (6 percent), and addressing terrorism threats and protecting the welfare of overseas Filipino workers (both at 4 percent). Notably, there has been a significant increase of 7 percentage points in the number of Filipinos expressing concern about enforcing the rule of law, reaching 16 percent in June compared to 9 percent in the previous quarter. Pulse Asia conducted the "Ulat ng Bayan" survey last month through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adult respondents from all over the country. The survey has a margin of error of +/-2.8 percent for national estimates, indicating the potential range of error in the overall findings. For subnational estimates, which pertain to specific geographic areas covered in the survey such as Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, the margin of error is +/-5.7 percent.
