General Trias prepares for landmark condo project
Despite its proximity to the populous metropolis, General Trias City in Cavite, one of the country’s more progressive provinces, has remarkably retained its halcyon character. For one, it has preserved its Spanish-era churches and, to this day, a reverence for its many-storied past. Gentri, as it is sometimes called, is, in fact, just a stone’s throw away from landmarks such as the site of the Tejeros Convention — the first election in Philippine history. In December 2015, however, General Trias had sufficiently adapted to urbanization to merit conversion into a first-class component city of Cavite. Today, Gentri boasts such modern spoils as hotels, a championship golf course and fine residential enclaves — products of a burgeoning economy that turned in a revenue of over P2 billion in 2022, according to the Department of Trade and Industry. Indeed, Gentri has become increasingly more appealing to a growing market of longtime city dwellers looking to relocate to more tranquil places south of the metro. Quick to rise to the challenge, affordable condo developer Asterra has expanded into General Trias, intent on building homes that hardworking Filipinos can afford. [caption id="attachment_163851" align="aligncenter" width="645"] Asterra General Trias assures that unit sizes and configurations will suit its prospective residents’ lifestyles.[/caption] Strategically situated in the heart of the vibrant city, Asterra General Trias is a prime location from which essential amenities and the comforts of everyday living are just a short drive or commute away. Its future residents will be able to stay close to nature while having access to commercial centers, educational institutions, healthcare facilities and major transport networks. Asterra’s intent to create exceptional living spaces is reflected in the thought and care put into the condominium units’ design, interior layouts and recreational facilities. Asterra General Trias assures that unit sizes and configurations will suit its prospective residents’ lifestyles, whether young professionals, growing families, retirees or returning overseas workers. Potential buyers are also in for a treat as Asterra General Trias provides both affordability and uncompromising quality. The latter is evident in every development aspect — from premium materials to meticulous attention to detail. Future homeowners can likewise expect a secure and well-maintained environment that goes with the family-centric community. As for affordability, Asterra General Trias is set to roll out its flexible payment options and unit pricing within the year. Homegrown Caviteños and those seeking the peace of the countryside can rest assured that the Asterra condo lifestyle will soon be within their reach. Clark International Speedway in Pampanga is still cooling down after the adrenaline-fueled weekend that marked the return of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup. Last weekend, the racetrack was once again set ablaze with action, as the longest-running premier one-make-race series of Toyota Motor Philippines kicked off its 2023 season. This year's TGR Vios Cup kicked off with a twist that has redefined the classic Circuit Championship format. [caption id="attachment_155577" align="aligncenter" width="525"] MICHAEL Keilani Jordan currently sits at 5th overall after the first leg[/caption] For the first time in its history, the series included an endurance racing event in its third leg, marking an evolution in the level of challenge and excitement for racers and spectators alike. The opening round was a spectacle of skill and speed, as both seasoned and new racers took to the track. After three races, Russell Cabrera of Toyota Team Cebu currently leads the Sporting and Promotional Class, followed by Maila Avila of JBT Racing/Toyota Isabela and Ben Corpino of Obengers Racing Team. In the premiere Super Sporting Class, Gerard Loy of R Racing Team went on an assault to take this leg’s lead, ahead of JD Motorsports-Ribbon Arc’s John Dizon and Red Diwa of JBT Racing/Toyota Isabela. Notably, actor Enzo Pineda, a Vios Cup Autocross alumnus, made his debut in the Circuit Promotional Class under Team Toyota Gazoo Racing PH and currently sits at 13th overall. Meanwhile, the Super Sporting Class saw the return of veteran racer Troy Montero, who sits at 8th overall after the first leg. Former Autocross racers, Reph Bangsil and model Arianne Bautista, as well as beauty queens Carla Lizardo and Megan Young, graced the track. The 2023 Autocross lineup was completed by previous season champ Migy Romulo, and 2022 favorites Benedict Cua, Bianca Yao and Lexi Mendiola. In the Autocross Challenge Promotional Influencers Class, Bianca Yao leads after the first leg ahead of Arianne Bautista and Apple David. The Sporting Influencers Class, meanwhile, saw Miguel Romulo take first place ahead of Lexi Mendiola and Reph Bangsil. In the Promotional Media Class, Patricia Tenorio came out on top, winning over Cesar Miguel and Riz Javier. Siegwald Go took first in the Sporting Media Class ahead of Justin Young and John Rey San Diego. The TGR Vios Cup has long been a significant platform for promoting motorsports in the Philippines, and this year's event was no exception. Since its inception in 2014, the series has not only fostered a love for racing but has also inspired new generations of drivers, shining a spotlight on local talent, and bringing motorsport to a broader audience. The event was open to all, and for those unable to be there in person, the exhilarating action was streamed live on the official Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines Facebook page. Beyond the on-track action, the event also offered the full Toyota Gazoo Racing experience. Attendees were treated to a display of various Toyota GR cars, the chance to try out the TGR GT Cup racing rigs, and a host of activities and prize-winning opportunities from TMP and TGR Vios Cup sponsors. The event was organized in cooperation with Bridgestone and Petron, with further support from sponsors including Denso, 3M, AVT, ROTA, OMP, Tuason Racing, myToyota Wallet and Kinto One. The opening event of the 2023 TGR Vios Cup season proved once again that the series is more than just a race. It's a beacon of inspiration for aspiring racers, a testament to the spirit of motorsport, and a celebration of talent both old and new. The thrilling spectacle we witnessed on Saturday is a promising sign of what's to come in the rest of the season, as the TGR Vios Cup continues to fuel the growth of motorsports in the Philippines. Thread signup hits 10M
Facebook owner Meta’s version of Twitter called Thread was launched late Wednesday and the new microblogging site got 10 million sign-ups seven hours later. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg bared the news Thursday on his official Thread account, signaling the biggest challenge to the Elon Musk-owned Twitter. The Thread app went live, without ads, on Apple and Android apps stores in 100 countries at 11 p.m. Wednesday. Zuckerberg spent the first few hours of the platform’s launch replying to new users. “One thing that’s up is the number of world champion MMA (mixed martial arts) fighters on Threads, especially now that you’re here!” he wrote in a reply to American MMA fighter Jon Jones. “Round one of this thing is getting off to a good start,” he said in another. Zuckerberg also offered a shot across the bow at Musk — the pair are known to be bitter rivals, and have even offered to meet each other in a fighting cage to wrestle it out. In his first tweet in over a decade, Zuckerberg posted a Spiderman pointing at Spiderman meme in an apparent reference to the similarity of the two platforms. But Zuckerberg is game to achieve for Thread what Twitter has yet to score. Back on Threads, he wrote: “It’ll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it. Twitter has had the opportunity to do this but hasn’t nailed it. Hopefully we will.” Twitter has said it has more than 200 million daily users. Threads was introduced as a clear spin-off of Instagram, which offers a built-in audience of more than two billion users, thereby sparing the new platform the challenge of starting from scratch. Tens of millions sign up to Twitter rival Threads
More than 30 million people have downloaded Threads, Meta's rival to Twitter, within the first few hours of its launch, the company's CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday. The app went live on Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries at 2300 GMT on Wednesday and will run with no ads for now, but its release in Europe has been delayed over data privacy concerns. Threads is the biggest challenger yet to Elon Musk-owned Twitter, which has seen a series of potential competitors emerge but not yet replace one of the world's biggest social media platforms, despite its struggles. "Feels like the beginning of something special, but we've got a lot of work ahead to build the app," Zuckerberg wrote on his official Threads account Thursday. Accounts were already active for celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Hugh Jackman, as well as media outlets including The Washington Post and The Economist. Zuckerberg also offered a shot across the bow at Musk -- the pair are known to be bitter rivals and have offered to wrestle it out in a cage fight. In his first tweet in over a decade, Zuckerberg posted a Spiderman pointing at Spiderman meme in an apparent reference to the similarities between Threads and Twitter. On Threads, he wrote: "It'll take some time, but I think there should be a public conversations app with 1 billion+ people on it." Twitter has said it has more than 200 million daily users. Be kind Threads was introduced as a clear spin-off of Instagram, which offers a built-in audience of more than two billion users, sparing the new platform the challenge of starting from scratch. Instagram chief Adam Mosseri told users that Threads was intended to build "an open and friendly platform for conversations." "The best thing you can do if you want that too is be kind," he said. Zuckerberg is taking advantage of Musk's chaotic ownership of Twitter to push out the new product, which Meta hopes will become the go-to platform for celebrities, companies, and politicians. "It's as simple as that: if an Instagram user with a large number of followers such as Kardashian or a Bieber or a Messi begins posting on Threads regularly, a new platform could quickly thrive," strategic financial analyst Brian Wieser said on Substack. Analyst Jasmine Engberg from Insider Intelligence said Threads only needs one out of four Instagram monthly users "to make it as big as Twitter." "Twitter users are desperate for an alternative, and Musk has given Zuckerberg an opening," she added. Under Musk, Twitter has seen content moderation reduced to a minimum with glitches and rash decisions scaring away celebrities and major advertisers. He has angered Twitter's most devoted aficionados by declaring that access to its TweetDeck product -- which allows users to view a fast flow of tweets at once -- would be for paying customers only. EU many months away Meta has its legion of critics too, especially in Europe, which could slow the growth of Threads. The company has been criticized for its handling of personal data, the essential ingredient for targeted ads that help it rake in billions of dollars in profits. Mosseri said he regretted that the launch was delayed in the European Union, but had Meta waited for regulatory clarity from Brussels, Threads would have been "many, many, many, months away." "I was worried that our window would close because timing is important," he told the tech news site Platformer. According to a source close to the matter, Meta was wary of a new law called the Digital Markets Act, which sets strict rules for the world's "gatekeeper" internet companies. One rule restricts platforms from moving user data between products, as would potentially be the case between Threads and Instagram. The EU Commission, which will oversee compliance with the DMA, declined to comment on what it said was a private business decision. Meta was caught doing just that after it bought WhatsApp, and European regulators will be on high alert to ensure it does not do so illegally with Threads. Globally, the Threads hashtag on Twitter has garnered three million tweets, with many users jokingly suggesting people will return to Musk's platform. "10 mins into threads app. Me coming back to Twitter," one user wrote, sharing a video of a man sprinting. Others expressed privacy concerns. "Meta loves to collect private information and I don't trust the way it treats private information," a Japanese user tweeted. "I also have the impression that this is a company hated by the EU, so I'm reluctant." But some said they would permanently move to Threads. One Threads user wrote: "Now I truly can say goodbye to Twitter forever." The post Tens of millions sign up to Twitter rival Threads appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Celebrating World Bicycle Day with Tour De McDo
After the success of its first Tour de McDo, McDonald’s Philippines hosts its second community bike ride in celebration of World Bicycle Day. The latest ride brought together several cycling communities and personalities simultaneously in three key areas across the country – Pampanga, Intramuros, and Tagaytay. Tour de McDo is a multiple-stage bike challenge introduced under McDonald’s Green and Good campaign – the QSR giant’s initiative to do better for the environment by implementing sustainable and alternative solutions in their restaurants and operations. Through Tour de McDo, McDonald’s encourages its customers to explore a healthier lifestyle for themselves and the environment, while also highlighting various scenic cycling routes that pass through McDonald’s stores equipped with bike-friendly features. Earlier this year, Tour de McDo’s first round highlighted McDonald’s fifth flagship Green and Good store–the McDonald’s Nuvali, Sta. Rosa branch. McDonald’s Nuvali, the QSR giant’s 700th store nationwide, boasts its bike-friendly features, utility-efficient solutions, and green building solutions. Aside from its sustainable restaurant innovations, the strategic location of the store makes it an ideal stop for the strong cycling community in Nuvali. The sophomore ride now features three new scenic routes to cater to the different levels of cycling: Manila, Intramuros for the beginner route (20KM), Clark, Pampanga for the intermediate route (34KM), and Tagaytay for the advanced route (48KM). Almost 100 participants joined the event and received Tour de McDo kits, which include an exclusive Tour de McDo Dri Fit shirt, Tour de McDo limited-edition stickers, and a McDonald’s breakfast meal, all for free. “For a long time, our McDonald’s stores have played an integral role in many bike rides as a stopover or pit stop. This allowed us to find more ways to bring together the interests of our customers and care for the planet, under our Green and Good campaign. By promoting sustainable active mobility through Tour de McDo, we hope to encourage more people to get on a bike, so we can collectively do our part in lessening CO2 emissions,” shared McDonald’s Philippines president and CEO Kenneth S. Yang. McDonald’s stores featured in the various routes were: McDonald’s Quirino Mabini, McDonald’s Clark CM Recto Pampanga, McDonald’s Porac Pampanga, McDonald’s Nuvali, Sta. Rosa, and McDonald’s Delos Reyes, Tagaytay all offer bike-friendly features such as a Bike & Dine facility, so that cyclists can dine in with the safety of their bikes. The stores also opened dedicated Bike Repair Stations that offer free use of tools for any basic repairs. Cyclists Meal for weekend bike rides Extending the celebration of World Bicycle Day throughout the month, McDonald’s Philippines introduces its Cyclists Meal, a special McDonald’s App offer available for all weekends of June 2023. Cyclists who go on weekend rides can pass by any McDonald’s store and present the Cyclists Meal voucher on the McDonald’s app to get a Cheesy Eggdesal with Sausage and a Medium McCafe Iced Coffee Original for only 99 pesos. The McDonald’s Promo App is available to download for free on the Google Play store for Android users and the Apple App store for iOS users. To stay updated for the next Tour de McDo and other cycling-related initiatives, follow McDonald’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Globe Boosts Food-Security Program Hapag Movement
With the problem of involuntary hunger plaguing many Filipinos, leading digital solutions platform Globe and international food rescue organization Scholars of Sustenance Philippines Food Rescue took up the challenge of addressing this issue in a recent partnership under the former’s Hapag Movement banner program. In collaboration with Filipino-Chinese restaurant community group Fil-Chi Ho Tsia Ho Dim, Globe Business recently donated food that supplemented the evening feeding program of the Most Holy Trinity Parish for 100 beneficiaries within the community in Sampaloc, Manila. SOS PH, through its food rescue operations, utilizes safe surplus food by redistributing them to vulnerable communities in need. Recently launched in the Philippines, it aims to bring to the country its goal of reducing hunger and food waste. “In starting our operations in the Philippines, we are sincerely grateful for the assistance we are receiving from various sectors. We are one with Globe in their vision for the Hapag Movement. Through our combined efforts in fundraising through digital channels and supporting communities through food rescue programs, we hope to truly make a difference and alleviate the hunger situation in the country,” said James Leyson, managing director of SOS PH. The Hapag Movement is Globe’s platform that connects multisectoral partners who can contribute to addressing hunger and joblessness. It provides supplemental feeding while building the capacity of beneficiary families through livelihood training. “At Globe, we believe that through collective action and the use of technology, we can bridge the gap toward a world free from hunger. We are thankful to SOS PH for this initiative and we are looking forward to shaping a #GlobeOfGood with them,” said Apple Evangelista, head of Sustainability and Social Responsibility at the Globe Group. The food rescue program is a symbolic start to a meaningful partnership between Globe and SOS PH. It is one of the major projects the two are working on under the Hapag Movement. Since its launch in October 2022, SOS PH has rescued and distributed a total of 10,000 kilograms of food, equating to more than 42,000 meals served and 13,000 kilograms of equivalent CO2 emissions reduction. Those who would like to send support to the Hapag Movement may donate via the GlobeOne app using Globe Rewards points. (Just follow the steps below.) Donations may also be made using Gcash or sent via credit card on the Globe of Good website. The post Globe Boosts Food-Security Program Hapag Movement appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Google answers ChatGPT challenge with Bard expansion
Google on Wednesday said it is opening Bard, a rival to Microsoft-backed ChatGPT, to 180 countries as it expands its use of artificial intelligence across its platform. Executives at an annual Google developers conference in Silicon Valley said that generative AI will also be used to supercharge the tech giant's leading search engine. "We have been applying AI for a while, with generative AI we are taking the next step," Google chief executive Sundar Pichai told thousands of developers gathered for the event. "We are reimagining all our core products, including search," he said. Google is racing to catch up with rival Microsoft, which has rushed to integrate ChatGPT-like powers in a wide array of its products, including the Bing search engine. Microsoft's dash into AI came despite fears about the technology's potential threat to society, including its impact on the spread of disinformation and whether it could make whole categories of jobs obsolete. Cathy Edwards of Google Search said the new experience would be akin to a search that is "supercharged" by a conversational bot. Other Google executives laid out how generative AI is being woven into Gmail, photo editing, online work tools, and more. The company's AI efforts would be carried out in a "bold and responsible" way, senior product director Jack Krawczyk said during a briefing. Google's expansion meant it removed a waitlist for Bard, letting users around the world engage with it in English after months of testing it out in the US and Britain. Bard will be modified to support 40 languages in the coming months, according to Krawczyk. "We're excited to get Bard into more people's hands," Krawczyk said. "We're pretty fired up about where Bard is going." Google also announced browser "extensions" that will imbue apps and services such as Gmail and Maps with AI features. Bard technology will enable features such as filling in the text to help draft emails and suggesting ideas for an artwork by scrutinizing a picture of available supplies. Google is also letting partners build such extensions, including one from Adobe that will let users generate images, Krawczyk said. The tech titan also unveiled new Pixel devices including a $1,799 foldable smartphone with a bendable screen that is the size of a tablet computer when opened. "You're getting the best of both worlds," Google senior vice president of devices Rick Osterloh said of the Fold. "It's a powerful smartphone when it's convenient and an immersive tablet when you need one." Google also added a new tablet and a lower-priced version of its flagship smartphone to the Pixel lineup. Risky tech? Google's announcements came a week after rival Microsoft expanded public access to its generative artificial intelligence programs, which are powered by models made by OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. The AI-enhanced features of the company's Bing search engine and Edge internet browser became open to anyone. The services have been enhanced with the ability to work with images as well as text, and Microsoft intends to add video to the mix. Despite the rollouts by two of the world's biggest companies, risks from AI include its potential uses for disinformation, with voice clones, deep-fake videos, and convincing written messages. A range of experts in March urged a pause in the development of powerful AI systems to allow time to make sure they are safe. Their open letter, signed by more than 1,000 people, including billionaire Elon Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, was prompted by generative AI technology from Microsoft-backed firm OpenAI. A prominent computer scientist often dubbed "the godfather of artificial intelligence" recently quit his job at Google to speak out about the dangers of the technology. Geoffrey Hinton, who created some of the technology underlying AI systems, maintained that the existential threat from AI is "serious and close." Balik-Tanaw | The dissident love of Jesus
The readings for Palm Sunday begin with narrating the triumphant entry of Jesus and His disciples to Jerusalem. According to the story, Passover and the Feast of the Unleavened Bread is coming in two days’ time and a lot of Jews will go up to Jerusalem to celebrate the feast. As observant Jews, Jesus and his disciples came to Jerusalem in observance of the feast that will take place (John 12: 12-16; Mark 14:1-15). When they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethphage at the Mount of Olives, Jesus instructed his two disciples to go to a village where they will find an ass and to bring it to him. Jesus rode on the ass when he entered Jerusalem. The people accompanied him and they held palm branches while crying out, ‘Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our Father David that is to come! Hosanna in the highest!’ (Mark 11:1-10). The post Balik-Tanaw | The dissident love of Jesus appeared first on Bulatlat......»»
