Davao City celebrates World Vasectomy Day
Davao City celebrated World Vasectomy Day, organized by the City Health Office (CHO), to advocate for vasectomy as a safe and cost-effective option for permanent contraception. The event started with a motorcade involving various sectors of the local government, followed by a 'No Scalpel Vasectomy Forum' held at SM City Davao to educate barangay health workers about the Non-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) procedure. Since Davao City began celebrating World Vasectomy Day in 2014, there has been a significant increase in the acceptance rate of NSV among the male population. Dr. Tomas Miguel Ababon, a panel member of the forum, highlighted the initial challenges faced in promoting NSV, as it required a shift from the traditional approach to contraception which mostly relied on women. However, with the support of barangay health workers and information campaigns, the stigma surrounding male contraception is gradually being dispelled. The panel members emphasized that NSV is a safe procedure that can be completed in 10-15 minutes with minimal aftercare, unlike the more invasive ligation procedure for women. They also stressed that vasectomy does not affect masculinity or sexual performance. Councilor Lorenzo Villafuerte, on behalf of Mayor Sebastian Duterte, comm.....»»

PBA expansion? Not right now says former Commissioner
The shocking news of the planned sale of the Blackwater franchise some weeks back triggered a number of topics in the PBA. For one, if the team were to be sold, who are the possible buyers? What new team, or teams, could we possibly see in the PBA? For two, the topic of expansion can also be tackled as Blackwater was one of the two teams that entered the PBA when the league last expanded from 10 to 12 teams in time for the 2014-2015 season. Can interested parties just buy a separate franchise in another PBA expansion? For former Commissioner Chito Salud, who was in charge of the league when Blackwater and Kia joined some six years ago, the PBA should refrain from adding any more teams for the time being. "Maybe the league needs more time, to make sure the additional teams garner enough clout and fans," Salud said on Power & Play hosted by fellow former PBA Commissioner Noli Eala. Blackwater, and Terra Firma (Kia), should have decent following, especially with some notable players in the respective lineups. However, both franchises have little on-court success since entering the league. Both are yet the advance in the semifinals in their minimal playoff appearances. "At this time, I think we have the perfect number [of teams]. Comm. Willie [Marcial] has the perfect conferences and format for these members," Salud added. Salud is not totally opposed to adding more teams, he did supervise the entry of two new ones after all. The prospect of expansion means that the PBA is doing great but the timing has to be right as well. "To have an expansion, that means the league is thriving. I don't see it right now," Salud said. "Anytime you have a party that's interested to come in, magandang senyales yan. But for this time, let's keep it as it is," he added. — Follow this writer on Twitter, @paullintag8.....»»
