OFWs plastic cards licenses priority
Newly-appointed Land Transportation Office, officer-in-charge Hector Villacorta on Thursday said departing overseas Filipino workers will be prioritized in the remaining plastic cards for driver’s license in their inventory. At the Laging Handa public briefing, Villacorta said he instructed the agency to prioritize departing OFWs in the 53,000 remaining plastic cards in all LTO satellite offices in the country since they will need it for work. “Saudi Arabia or the Middle East may not recognize driver’s licenses printed on paper. These people will go abroad to work, but their licenses may not be acknowledged. We’re talking to our regional directors to give priority to those who will work as drivers abroad,” Villacorta explained. Delays on the agency procurement caused the depleting supply of plastic cards and blank plates. In his first day in office, Villacorta said there are still fixers in their Diliman Field Office asking for around 2,000 fee to expedite the processing of documents. Villacorta said he will talk to their frontline employees and tell them how serious they are in quashing corruption in the agency. Villacorta, the current Department of Transportation assistant secretary for communication and commuter welfare, was appointed caretaker of the LTO following the resignation of Jay Art Tugade, the former LTO chief. Tugade cited differences with Transportation Secretary Jimmy Bautista as the reason why he resigned. The post OFWs plastic cards licenses priority appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
DoTr names LTO chief
Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista has designated Atty. Hector Villacorta — an assistant secretary of the agency — as officer-in-charge of the Land Transportation Office on Wednesday, replacing Jay Art Tugade who resigned on 22 May. Tugade’s resignation takes effect 1 June. Villacorta is the department’s Assistant Secretary for Communications and Commuter Affairs, a role he will continue even as OIC of the LTO. The newly-minted LTO chief assured Bautista that the agency would focus on critical issues, including the issuance of driver’s license and vehicle plates. “This is not just a transition but a continuation of the efforts done by the LTO all these many decades,” Villacorta said. “We give you an institution where personalities may change but we will carry on. With the dawn in this office, we will never forget those who helped through the night.” Villacorta was a former secretary for the Commission on Appointments and he also served as the chief of staff of former senator Vicente Sotto III. He graduated Law at the University of Santo Tomas in 1971 and Colegio de San Juan de Letran. The post DoTr names LTO chief appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
