P7.2-M smuggled cigarettes seized
ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Zamboanga City Police Office reported on Sunday that its operatives arrested six individuals and seized some P7.2 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in an anti-smuggling operation here. Zamboanga City Police director Col. Alexander Lorenzo identified the suspects as Sukrimar Jose, Kiram Sali, Masaron Sahiron, Ayyub Abbas, Jun Alpa and P.J. Milagrosa, who were arrested around 11:15 p.m. Saturday near the island village of Manalipa. The police, Bureau of Customs agents and soldiers were conducting seaborne patrol when they chanced upon and intercepted a motorboat marked “FB Harayana” with six people aboard. Lorenzo said the team launched the seaborne patrol after receiving information that a motorboat loaded with smuggled cigarettes was set to pass near Manalipa Island coming from Jolo, Sulu en route to Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur. He said when inspected, the motorboat was found to be loaded with boxes of assorted cigarettes and no one among the crew was able to present documents of the cargo they were transporting. Lorenzo said seized from FB Harayana were 203 master cases and 66 reams of assorted smuggled cigarettes worth P7.2 million. The arrested suspects and confiscated smuggled cigarettes including the motorboat were placed under the custody of the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company and will be turned over to the BoC for proper disposition. Chinese national arrested over P1.9-M fake cigarettes
A Chinese national has been arrested in Cebu City after P1.9 million worth of fake cigarettes were found in his store during a buy-bust operation. Allen Lim, 40, was arrested while his companion, Marilyn Lim, evaded arrest during the raid of the SYH Wholesale and Retail store in MC Briones Street, Barangay Ermita by agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Mandaue City Field Unit. The CIDG personnel were accompanied by representatives of the Bureau of Internal Revenue Region 13 and Fortune Tobacco Company and Japan Tobacco International during the seizure operation. Seized were nine boxes of Mighty Green, four boxes of Mighty Red, three boxes of Winston, two boxaes of Marlboro, three boxes of Jackpot, 49 reams of Berlin, 49 reams of Astro, 39 reams of New Berlin, one box of Canon, one box of Union, 21 reams of Fortune Green and several boxes of other brands. CIDG Mandaue chief Police Captain Nigel Sanoy said the stamps on each pack of Mighty cigarettes have the same code, indicating that it was photocopied. P900-M worth of smuggled cigarettes, other agri products seized in Bulacan
The Department of Agriculture on Monday said it will check the warehouse in Plaridel, Bulacan raided by the Bureau of Customs on Friday, 26 May 2023 that yielded about P900 million worth of smuggled imported agricultural products , tobacco and cigarettes and other general merchandise. A quick inventory of the goods showed the illicit cigarettes alone are estimated to be worth P50 million. The operation came after Customs Commissioner Bien Rubio issued a Letter of Authority and Mission Order, which were immediately implemented by agents from Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service-Manila International Container Port, Enforcement and Security Service and the Philippine Coast Guard. CIIS-MICP chief Alvin Enciso led the operation of the warehouses located in Plaridel, Bulacan. “Our team showed the LOA to the warehouse representatives and they proceeded with the inspection after it was acknowledged,” he said, adding that the warehouses now have temporary padlocks and seals. The owners of the goods would be asked to present importation documents or proof of payment by Customs authorities. If found without proper documents, the corresponding seizure and forfeiture proceedings will be conducted against the subject shipments for violation of Sec. 1400 (misdeclaration in goods declaration) in relation to Sec. 1113 (property subject to seizure and forfeiture) of Republic Act No. 10863 known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
