DUMAGUETE CITY — Authorities here reported that it seized a cache of ammunition and bomb components at a temporary harbor site of New People’s Army rebels in Mabinay, Negros Oriental. Stephen Polinar disclosed that they discovered the items in a cave at Sitio Cansanaan in Barangay Abis on Tuesday. Embo public school teachers will no longer enjoy Makati benefits
Teachers at the public schools located in the enlisted men's barrios or embo barangays will no longer enjoy the benefits they receive from the local government of Makati City starting this year after the disputed barangays became part of the territory of Taguig City. A teacher of a public elementary school in one of the embo barangays said, that apart from the financial aid that they receive from Makati City, they were also given hair salon gift vouchers to make themselves look beautiful during National Teachers' Day. "Even teachers have nothing to wait for during teachers' day. It's complete—with jacket and everything else. We were also given a voucher for David Salon to pamper ourselves and look beautiful," the teacher, whose identity was withheld, told The Daily Tribune. "Now, all of these benefits that we receive from Makati City are gone. We are not also included to receive the living allowance," she added. Aside from the P3,000 monthly incentive allowance, Makati City has also provided public school teachers with brand new laptops and internet load that they used for online classes during the pandemic. Public school teachers were also given teachers' kits containing a bluetooth speaker, wireless presenter, tumbler, teachers' plan, students data record, first aid kit, Makatizen pouch with school supplies, notepad, 64GB flash drive, voice amplifier, laptop bag and a Makatizen jacket, P500 worth of gift certificate for healthy foods and drinks, P700 worth of gift certificates for salon make-over, and P1,500 worth of gift certificates for groceries and vitamins given every World Teachers’ Day. During the 2021 World Teachers' Day celebration, the city government gave teachers digital teachers' kits that contained a jacket, boom microphone, numeric keypad, mini tripod, ring light, external sound card, backpack with UV sterilizer, tumbler holder, and pen tablet. There is also the possibility that the provision of instructional materials could be taken away from the teachers because they are no longer under the care of Makati City. "Definitely, one of the challenges is the provision of instructional materials for teachers. We just heard that the laptops, television sets, and projectors will be taken away from them," Alma Cayabyan Adona, principal of West Rembo Elementary School, told this reporter in an earlier interview. Adona also said they have already coordinated with the local government of Taguig City regarding the provision of instructional materials that they need for teaching. "They are now processing the requests of our teachers because they [teachers] need that. They are used to using it for how many years of teaching," she said. "But we can wait because we know it won't be given right away. It will really entail a lot of processes to procure that kind of equipment— the teachers were told to just wait because they will find ways to provide all these things to our teachers gradually." Melting glacier yields climber’s corpse
An Alpine guide has stumbled on the corpse of an Austrian who died more than 20 years ago on the melting Schlatenkees glacier in Austria’s Tyrol province. The remains and a backpack with cash and IDs were found at about 2,900 meters on Friday, according to police. Police suspect the body is that of a 37-year-old man who died on the glacier in 2001, and said DNA results are expected within a “few weeks.” The discovery follows the finding of human remains on the same glacier less than two months ago. Climate change has accelerated the melting of glaciers, with the retreating ice releasing bodies of alpinists it has held for years, often decades. In late June, a group of alpinists discovered human remains and parts of skis on the same glacier. The remains have not been identified as yet, but could be decades old, police said. In July, climbers on the Theodul glacier in southern Switzerland found the remains of an alpinist who had disappeared in 1986. Bolsonaro aides raided in Brazil jewels probe
Brazilian police raided the homes of Jair Bolsonaro allies accused of reselling gifts including jewelry from foreign dignitaries for the "illicit enrichment of" the former president, a judicial judgment showed on Friday. The divisive right-winger categorically denied any wrongdoing, his lawyers saying he "never appropriated or misappropriated any public good," in a statement posted on the G1 news site. The scandal broke earlier this year, when newspaper Estado de Sao Paulo reported customs officials had seized a set of jewels from a government aide who tried to bring them into the country undeclared in his backpack in 2021. Brazilian law bars public officials from keeping expensive gifts. Elements of the police investigation were disclosed in a judgment by Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes to justify search warrants carried out by federal police on Friday at the homes of former Bolsonaro aides. "The evidence collected showed (the existence) during the presidency of Jair Bolsonaro, of a network to divert goods of a high amount which were offered to him," part of the judgment read. "Beyond allowing an inadmissible enrichment of the President of the Republic... it is possible that the Brazilian head of state was co-opted by foreign nations through these assets", investigators believe. They also reported goods placed in "a suitcase transported on the presidential plane on December 30", when Bolsonaro left Brazil for the United States, two days before the inauguration of his left-wing successor Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who defeated him in an October 2022 election. Among these state gifts were two sculptures given by the government of Bahrain during a state visit in 2021, as well as gifts from Saudi Arabia including a watch and a fountain pen from the Swiss luxury brand Chopard, investigators say. One of those suspected of reselling these gifts is Mauro Cid, a former top aide to Bolsonaro, who has been in prison since May over falsification of Covid-19 vaccination certificates. According to investigators, Cid mentioned in an audio message "25,000 dollars in cash" which would be intended for the ex-president after the sale of certain goods. Known for a brash style that earned him the nickname "Tropical Trump," Bolsonaro, the former army captain turned congressman surged to prominence as a presidential candidate in 2018 by playing to voters disgusted with corruption and economic mismanagement. After presiding over a presidency marked by scandals including his handling of Covid-19, Bolsonaro has now been barred from office for eight years over his unproven claims of massive fraud in the country's election system. bur-leg/ssy © Agence France-Presse The post Bolsonaro aides raided in Brazil jewels probe appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
3 alleged QC thieves captured
Three alleged thieves were nabbed over the weekend by operatives of the Quezon City Police District. In the first incident, Erwin Albaniel Dizon, 30, was arrested by QCPD Masambong Police Station after his boss and accounting staff complained that he gambled the P45,000 he withdrew from a bank. Dizon was the liaison officer of the company and was tasked to withdraw the company money at the BDO West Avenue Branch. However, instead of depositing the money, Dizon purportedly used it for online gambling. The victim and the accounting staff filed a complaint with the police, which led to Dizon’s arrest. He was found in possession of five bet list receipts from a 7-11 convenience store, with a total amount of P45,000. In the second incident, the QCPD Kamuning Police Station arrested Rommel dela Peña, 23, and Casper Reyeg, 26, for alleged cable theft and resisting arrest. The suspects were reportedly caught cutting cable wires from an iron pole in Barangay Pinyahan. When the police approached them, the suspects fled. The police gave chase and eventually arrested them. Reyeg tried to resist arrest, but the police were able to subdue him. The suspects were found in possession of a metal steel hacksaw, a 7-inch knife, a black backpack, and five meters of cable wire. They will all be charged in court. The post 3 alleged QC thieves captured appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
