More protection for GCash users
Digital money transfers are now an integral part of daily transactions. However, scammers, fraudsters and cybercriminals have devised various strategies to take advantage of users and exploit the cashless economy. In addition to utilizing topnotch cybersecurity systems, the Philippines’ number-one finance super app, GCash, has added another layer of protection with the introduction of “Send Money Protect” on its in-app feature, GInsure. SMP provides users confidence and peace of mind when sending money digitally for as little as P30 per month. SMP provides users comprehensive protection from the most common scams such as online shopping fraud, account takeovers and social engineering, for transactions done via “Express Send” in the app. SMP, offered in partnership with Chubb, the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company, can easily be availed once every 30 days. Studies show that 45 percent of Filipino adults have been targeted by scams, with 11 percent falling victim to such activities. This has led to uncertainties toward digital payment methods among some users, hampering milestones already achieved in financial inclusion. “We at GCash believe in building partnerships that amplify the value we provide to our users. That's why we've teamed up with Chubb, a global insurance leader and our partner in consumer protection, to bring you an added layer of protection. This collaboration ensures that you have added financial protection from the unexpected when transacting online, giving you the confidence that your hard-earned money is in safe hands,” said GCash vice president for New Businesses Winsley Bangit. Chubb Philippines’ country president Mari Rachelle Canta also emphasized that, “Our partnership with GCash further strengthens our mission to serve millions of customers by providing a safety net through embedding insurance in everyday transactions. Now, GCash users have enhanced protection from cybercrimes with ‘Send Money Protect.’” The partnership between GCash and its consumer insurance partner Chubb was solidified through a memorandum of agreement signing on 13 September 2023. Signatories from Gcash included VP for New Businesses Winsley Bangit and GInsure head Joseph Nino Young, while those from Chubb in the Philippines included country president Mari Rachelle Canta and VP and head of Consumer Lines Maurice Hilario. While the feature is currently in its beta version and available exclusively to GCash and Chubb employees for now, GCash has announced that it will be fully rolled out by 13 November 2023, promising a safer, worry-free online transaction experience for all. Skin-saving tandem
Salicylic acid is a known medicated topical solution that treats and prevents acne and other skin conditions. It penetrates deep inside the skin pores, peels off thick skin, reduces inflammation and exfoliates the skin. Tea tree oil, on the other hand, is one of nature’s most powerfully purifying ingredients noted for reducing skin blemishes and keeping acne at bay. Together, salicylic acid and tea tree oil create an extremely potent combination that fights off acne and targets post-acne dark spots and stubborn blemishes. The Body Shop has recently reformulated its bestselling Tea Tree line of skin care by adding the efficacy of salicylic acid. “We updated our number one skin care range of Tea Tree to help manage people with unpredictable skin care days,” says Emily Sia-Koa, The Body Shop assistant vice president for marketing. “This formula with added salicylic acid is more powerful than ever. The result is skin that feels purified, light and a visible reduction in blemishes.” Dr. Mara Evangelista-Huber, internationally certified dermapathologist, says tea tree oil works well with inflamed pimples. Adult female acne is usually big, returns on the same spot and tends to leave deep marks. [gallery columns="2" size="large" ids="190029,190030"] “Salicylic acid or beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) is a chemical exfoliant,” explains Evangelista-Huber. “All of our cells are connected to each other and a chemical exfoliant breaks that bond to easily shed off the skin. So, all hydroxy acids exfoliate the skin. Salicylic acid is not only an exfoliant but it also controls excessive oil and inflammation. It is the same as tea tree in the sense that they are anti-inflammatory. They complement each other. They exfoliate dark pigmentation of the skin.” She also adds that salicylic acid is one of the safest chemical exfoliants there is because it doesn’t go too deep into the skin, but it’s the only thing that can go inside the hair follicle that unclogs bacteria-causing acne. “The four main causes of acne include clogged pores, excessive oil production, inflammation and bacteria,” says Evangelista-Huber. “Tea tree is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammation. Salicylic acid also does those two things but, in addition, it unclogs the pores and controls the oil. So, they really work together. They target all four causes. Since salicylic acid is an exfoliant, it also lightens the dark spots.” Reformulated skin care line The Body Shop reformulated line of Tea Tree with salicylic acid includes Skin Clearing Facial Wash (cleans and controls excess oil), Skin Clearing Toner (removes lingering makeup and impurities), Daily Solution (leaves skin feeling purified and looking healthy), Skin Clearing Hydrator (hydrates skin) and Rapid Action Gel (visibly reduces blemishes). Sia-Koa says The Body Shop sources the naturally powerful tea tree plant from the foothills of Mount Kenya, where it is carefully hand-harvested by expert farmers and steam-distilled within 12 hours of harvesting to deliver the highest-quality oil. “Every individual has different skin care needs and concern,” Sia-Koa says. “So, the skin care each and every individual use depends on what your skin is telling you. From the brands perspective, we always advise our customers to do the basic -- cleanser, tone, treat and moisturize, and not to forget to apply sunscreen wherever you go. Listen to your skin and let it breathe once in a while. Take off your makeup before you sleep. Double cleanse, if needed, to ensure you take out the makeup and dirt in your face effectively.” The post Skin-saving tandem appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

OpenAI CEO’s Worldcoin crypto project launched
OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman on Monday launched the Worldcoin crypto project that relies on an eye scan to verify a user's identity. Worldcoin comes as the cryptocurrency industry is suffering hard times after the spectacular collapse of FTX and various legal cases against the sector's biggest players. "The Worldcoin Foundation today announced that Worldcoin, a project co-founded by Sam Altman, Alex Blania and Max Novendstern, is now live," read a statement on Worldcoin's website. Worldcoin will provide users with a private digital identity -- a "World ID" -- after they register in person using an "Orb" imaging device that scans their eye's unique iris pattern. This was to help solve one of the main challenges facing the crypto industry that largely relies on pseudonyms to operate, leaving it vulnerable to spam bots and scams. The company also launched its Worldcoin token, a cryptocurrency now tradable in certain locations and platforms, to millions of users who participated in early tests, the statement said. Worldcoin aims to create the "world's largest identity and financial public network," according to its website. "If successful, we believe Worldcoin could drastically increase economic opportunity, scale a reliable solution for distinguishing humans from AI online while preserving privacy, enable global democratic processes, and eventually show a potential path to AI-funded (universal basic income)," Altman and Blania said in a letter posted to Twitter, which is being renamed X. The company spent three years developing the project, and two million people signed up for a World ID during its beta testing. Worldcoin is rolling out 1,500 Orbs in locations across the globe, which will enable millions more to register, according to its website. "Like any really ambitious project, maybe it works out and maybe it doesn't, but trying stuff like this is how progress happens," Altman tweeted. Blania, too, was cautiously optimistic. "This is the beginning of a long journey. Especially early on, things will not be perfect," he said. In a sign of increased caution by regulators in treating crypto, Worldcoin wasn't available to trade in the US, where enthusiasm for the sector is significant, because of restrictions. Worldcoin jumped to as high as $3.58 from the initial price of $1.70 before falling back to $2.28, according to CoinMarketCap. ‘MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING’ REVIEW MISSION TO ENTERTAIN FAILS
It’s not that Tom Cruise has significantly aged in the seventh, and possibly the penultimate entry, to the Mission Impossible franchise that makes Dead Reckoning - Part One one of the worst films of the year. [caption id="attachment_158075" align="aligncenter" width="525"] TOM CruisePHOTOGRAPH COURTESY OF PARAMOUNT PICTURES[/caption] The 61-year-old actor is still lithe and agile and runs like Speedy Gonzales. But it’s the eerily bad script that is rather painful here. You’d think ChatGPT — in its beta-testing phase — could probably generate a better screenplay. Christopher McQuarrie returns to direct his third MI installment, co-writing a story that understandably jumps into the realm of Artificial Intelligence, given it›s the popular thing these days. Here, Cruise’s superspy Ethan Hunt is embroiled in a cat-and-mouse game with clowns to get hold of a powerful physical key that holds immense power and can be weaponized on an unimaginable scale. One of the enemies is a rogue AI called The Entity that looks like plain disco lights, or a generic animated desktop screensaver, when shown on a computer. AI, in real life, is a terrifying threat. But in this movie, you don’t experience the danger of its sentience. Except for a mildly interesting precognition from a cipher-locked explosive, the most “exciting” thing The Entity can do here are some CCTV tricks, which we have seen a gazillion times, even way back in the past with the famous bus scene from Keanu Reeves’ Speed (1994). The similarly rogue and sentient AI in two X-Files episodes in the ‘90s, The Ghost in the Machine and Kill Switch, are ten times more thrilling than Dead Reckoning’s plot. Nothing new The Targaryen-haired Vanessa Kirby returns as arms dealer Alanna, as well as Ethan’s usual IMF gang Luther (Ving Rhames), Benji (Simon Pegg) and Ilsa (Rebecca Ferguson). A new major supporting female character is introduced, Grace (Hayley Atwell), a professional pickpocket that quickly (quicker than a Tinder swipe) becomes Hunt’s new love interest. The “biggest” human villain here is the laughable terrorist Gabriel (Esai Morales) who looks more like a bored dad who enjoys lame tricks to amuse his kids, such as hiding inside a coffin-like treasure chest or walking stiffly behind doors, furniture and airport facilities. Even more unintentionally hilarious is when Gabriel’s assistant, the cosplayer-like Paris (Pom Klementieff), opens doors for him or unlocks latches for him to give him some semblance of a grand entrance. You may argue that you’re in it for the stunts and the action set pieces. After all, MI is known for its spectacle — stunning intercontinental locations where Cruise does all his heart-stopping stunts. Sure. Yawn. Here, the action scenes are nothing new. Hand-to-hand combat on top of a train? We’ve seen a thousand versions of this already. A car chase in Rome? A similar sequence in the kiddie movie Madagascar 3 is way more thrilling. Unintentionally funny The fight choreography, too, is often lazy and too zippy, with quick cuts that deprive you of the power seen in Rogue Nation’s raw, organic bathroom brawl between Cruise and Henry Cavill. The action scenes are overstretched and uninspired that you can easily stand up for a bathroom break — heck, you can even do your groceries — and when you come back, it’s still the same stuff happening on screen. The famous motorbike scene? We’ve seen it go viral on TikTok already, so it doesn’t cut it anymore. The dialogue, too, is often unintentionally funny, with surprisingly hammy acting, even for Cruise. There is a scene, at a “dangerous” meeting at a Venice party, where Ethan and Grace, surrounded by their enemies, are using their eyes to communicate, yet they are being so obvious that the film feels like a B-movie, or a deepfake of Mission Impossible, or I am in a James Corden MI parody with Lalo Schifrin’s theme music just thrown in. The movie’s jaw-dropping score of 96 percent at Rotten Tomatoes, as of writing, feels like AI sabotage. Nearly three hours long, Dead Reckoning - Part One is a disturbing example that humans are no longer imaginative and that AI›s threat is becoming real, what with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. At this point, AI just might entertain us better. 1.5 out of 5 stars Now showing in cinemas The post ‘MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: DEAD RECKONING’ REVIEW MISSION TO ENTERTAIN FAILS appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Ubisoft teases VR version of hit game ‘Assassin’s Creed’
French videogame powerhouse Ubisoft on Monday announced that a virtual reality version of its blockbuster "Assassin's Creed" franchise will be available by year's end. Player's in "Assassin's Creed Nexus VR" will take on the roles of earlier protagonists from the franchise, complete with the trademark hidden wrist blades, dramatic parkour escapes, and the iconic "leap of faith" from atop buildings. "Being able to feel what it is like to become a master assassin is going to be a huge draw for players," the game's senior creative director David Votypka told AFP at a Ubisoft Forward showcase of upcoming games in Los Angeles. "It's a really strong fit for VR." Gameplay in "Assassin's Creed" involves a lot of climbing, jumping between buildings swinging from poles, running, combat and more. "Games that work best in VR are obviously the ones that feature a lot of physicality; so it allows us to make something different and better in some ways than the non VR version," Votypka said. A team at Ubisoft was devoted to making sure people who get disoriented or nauseous from dashing about in VR are comfortable, adding features like quick ways for characters to "teleport" from one spot to another. There was also discussion early on by the team how realistic it should be for someone in VR to sneak up on a person and stab them to death, according to Votypka. Game designers tuned down the violence of assassination scenes, making them quick and controlling where targets could be struck. "You can't torture them," Votypka said of assassination targets. "It's still more like video game violence as opposed to trying to simulate what a real hidden-blade kill might be like." The game will be available on Meta's latest VR headsets known as Quest, formerly branded as Oculus. The new VR component will also add an interesting double-layer to the series, whose plot often centers around modern-day protagonists entering their own virtual historic world. Players will see through the virtual eyes of Ezio Auditore da Firenze in Renaissance Italy; Kassandra in Ancient Greece, and Connor in Colonial America in a storyline that lets them slip in and out of the memories of ancestors. Real-world moves, while holding controllers, will be used to duel, throw axes, move with stealth and more in the game, demonstrations showed. "This is a full proper 'Assassin's Creed' game in VR," Votypka said. "I hope that it shows players and developers and publishers that big brands can be awesome in VR." Ubisoft also showed off a coming "Assassin's Creed Mirage" addition the franchise tailored for play on videogame consoles and personal computers. "Mirage" was described as an homage to the first Assassin's game and plays out in ninth-century Baghdad. Gamers will take on the role of "Basim" fighting against "The Order of the Ancients" in "Mirage," which is set for release on 12 October. "Assassin's Creed" is also going mobile, with a "Codename Jade" free-to-play version of the game set during the time of the Qin Dynasty in China. Players were invited to register for a public "beta" test of "Jade." The post Ubisoft teases VR version of hit game ‘Assassin’s Creed’ appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
