Nurturing agri growth: Marcos’ birthday wish
More people wish a head of State a happy birthday than typical, as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will find as he celebrates his 66th birthday today. Wishes for good health and happiness and the success and accomplishment of all his commitments and obligations throughout his administration have flooded in. Before he spends his birthday in Singapore today, attending a summit and the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix, Marcos expressed his wish for an improved agriculture sector. In an interview with reporters, Marcos said he wants the sector to be more productive and resilient to climate change. He also expressed his wish for the government to understand the weather better so it could better help farmers. “(My birthday wish is) for (the) agriculture (sector) to improve and for us to know the real weather, whether it’s the wet season or dry season, so that we can help our farmers. That’s still my prayer up to now,” Marcos said. Marcos issued Executive Order 39, imposing a price cap on rice to control the soaring prices. He also gave the responsible government agencies the job of reducing the number of agricultural hoarders and smugglers. But he considers the “best” birthday gift the issuance of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 11953, or the New Agrarian Reform Emancipation Act. “As we chart a path towards a more self-sufficient and equitable Philippines, this administration reaffirms its commitment to enrich the lives of our farmers, ensure the rapid industrialization of our farmlands, and promote sustainable and inclusive growth in the countryside,” he said. He visited the Department of Agrarian Reform office in Quezon City to attend the release of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the New Agrarian Emancipation Act and to sign the Executive Order extending the moratorium on the repayment of agricultural debts of farmer-beneficiaries. At the event, Daily Tribune asked government officials to present their birthday wishes for Marcos, who concurrently heads the Department of Agriculture. “May God give President Marcos Jr. good health and more wisdom as he leads our country to a brighter future,” said one senior presidential protocol officer. Amid the good wishes, others turned the President’s birthday celebration into a platform to remind him of the pressing matters he must address as the land’s highest official. “I am hoping for more fruitful years to come with Marcos’s administration, especially in easing the plight of the poor people and our (economic) situation,” one DAR employee said. Economic vision for the future As Marcos celebrates another year of life, he continues to chart his vision for the future of the Philippines. One key aspect of this vision is economic development. He has advocated for policies to spur economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction. His focus on economic issues resonates with many Filipinos who prioritize financial stability and opportunities for their families. In October last year, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said that Marcos’s performance in his first 100 days in office was commendable. Zubiri lauded the President’s choice of Cabinet members, particularly his economic team. He also noted the frequent Cabinet meetings called by the President, which he deemed a positive practice. Best Phl salesman The President, he said, is the “best salesman” for the Philippines, sending signals to investors that the Philippines is open for business and investment. For context, the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed that approved foreign investment pledges grew by 27.8 percent in the year’s second quarter. The PSA data released on Tuesday showed that total foreign investments approved by investment promotion agencies during the period amounted to P59.09 billion from P46.26 billion FI in the same quarter of 2022. Vision for agriculture Marcos has made agriculture one of the top priorities of his administration. His extension of the moratorium on farmers’ repayment of their agrarian debts by two years has benefited them as they don’t have to make payments until 13 September 2025. “I have just signed an Executive Order for the two-year extension of EO 4, 2023, because other beneficiaries were not covered when the IRR was introduced and when we implemented the original EO’s moratorium,” Marcos said. While acknowledging these achievements, engaging in a broader discussion of his presidency is essential, recognizing both the positive strides and the challenges faced during his time in office. As with any political figure, President Marcos’ legacy is complex and multifaceted. The post Nurturing agri growth: Marcos’ birthday wish appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Bong Go celebrates post-birthday with indigents from Marikina and Rizal
A day after his birthday, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go personally led a distribution activity for impoverished residents from Marikina City and from San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal on Thursday, 15 June. Go and his team conducted the relief operation at Marikina City Sports Complex for a total of 3,000 residents. To ensure a more organized distribution, the beneficiaries were split into three groups. Residents from Marikina City and Rodriguez, Rizal were brought to the basketball and tennis courts, respectively, while those from San Mateo gathered in another covered area in the complex. All beneficiaries received grocery packs, masks, snacks, and vitamins from Senator Go’s office while the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended them financial assistance. Additionally, the senator's team provided bicycles, shoes, mobile phones, watches, shirts, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select individuals. In his speech, Go commended the exemplary dedication and tireless efforts of the local officials in Marikina City and in San Mateo and Rodriguez, Rizal. The senator highlighted their unwavering commitment to promoting the welfare and well-being of their constituents and acknowledged their invaluable contributions in fostering progress and development in their respective areas. “Parati namin naririnig na pinapasalamatan kami sa mga proyekto, sa mga tulong. Sa totoo lang po, huwag kayong magpasalamat sa amin. Ako po ay isang probinsiyano lamang (katulad ni) dating pangulong (Rodrigo) Duterte na binigyan niyo ng pagkakataon na makapagserbisyo sa inyo, kaya ako po ang dapat magpasalamat. Maraming-maraming salamat po,” Go expressed. “Hindi ko po sasayangin yung pagkakataon na ibinigay niyo sa amin. Magtatrabaho po ako para sa Pilipino. Sanay po ako sa trabaho. Umaga pa lang, tanghali, hapunan, kahit sa panaginip ay nagtatrabaho po ako dahil yan na ang nakagawian ko noon pa — ang pagtatrabaho at pagseserbisyo,” he underscored. During the event, Go was joined by officials from Marikina City, including Congresswoman Maan Teodoro and Mayor Marcy Teodoro; as well as the local officials from both towns in Rizal, such as Rodriguez Mayor Ronnie Evangelista and San Mateo Mayor Bartolome “Omie” Rivera Jr., among others. Continuing his message, Go, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, encouraged all Filipinos to avail themselves of the medical assistance provided by the 158 Malasakit Centers established across the country. Recognizing the importance of accessible healthcare for every Filipino, particularly poor and indigent patients, Go tirelessly advocates for more Malasakit Centers to ensure that no one is left behind in times of medical emergencies, saying, “Alam n’yo ang Malasakit Center po, batas na ‘yan na isinulong ko noon, pinirmahan ni dating pangulong Duterte. It’s a one-stop shop, nasa loob na ho ng ospital (ang mga ahensyang may medical assistance programs). Hanapin n’yo ‘yung karatulang Malasakit Center.” “At kung kailangan n’yo po ng tulong mula sa opisina ko sa pagpapaopera ninyo, sabihan n’yo lang po ang aking opisina, tutulong po ako sa abot ng aking makakaya pati pamasahe n’yo po, tutulungan ho namin,” he continued. In Marikina City, residents may seek assistance from the Malasakit Center at Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center. Meanwhile, Rizal province has four Malasakit Centers at Casimiro A. Ynares Sr. Memorial Hospital in Rodriguez, Margarito A. Duavit Memorial Hospital in Binangonan; Antipolo City Hospital System Annex IV (Mambugan); and Bagong Cainta Municipal Hospital in Cainta. Go has also been instrumental in promoting the establishment of Super Health Centers to ensure that more Filipinos have access to basic healthcare services. There will be four Super Health Centers in the city of Marikina while there will be one each in Rodriguez and San Mateo. Said centers will offer database management, out-patient, birthing, isolation, diagnostic (laboratory: x-ray, ultrasound), pharmacy, and ambulatory surgical unit. Other services that will be available in Super Health Centers are eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) service; oncology centers; physical therapy and rehabilitation center; and telemedicine, where remote diagnosis and treatment of patients will be done. Still in line with his advocacy to bolster the health sector, Go, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported the acquisition of medical equipment for Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center in Marikina City. He also supported the rehabilitation of a multipurpose building in the city. Earlier that day, Go was in Quezon City where he joined Councilor Mikey Belmonte and Mayor Joy Belmonte in the inauguration of two multi-purpose buildings which he supported for funding before as Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance. He also spearheaded another relief operation for a thousand disadvantaged residents in Quezon City. 5 awesome local Google Doodles that made Filipinos proud
This year, the Philippines celebrates its 125th Independence Day from the Spanish — remembering and honoring our freedom to be proud as Filipinos is always a cause for celebration. For a long time now, Google has stood in solidarity with the Philippines. And one of the many ways they show that support is through occasional Filipino-themed Google Doodles, beyond the Philippine Independence Day Doodle. To get in the Pinoy Pride spirit this Independence Day, here are five Google Doodles worth revisiting: Jose Rizal’s 158th birthday No Filipino pride celebration is complete without honoring the country’s greatest hero. Google paid tribute to Dr. Jose Rizal back in 2019 with a Doodle that put the hero’s visage front and center, flanked by “Google” stylized similarly to the famous original cover of Noli Me Tangere, one of his two masterpiece novels — both of which are included at the bottom of the illustration. As an added touch, the opening passages of the novel are written in the artwork’s background, while the quill and the magnifying glass bordering it refer to Rizal’s professions as a writer and ophthalmologist. The Adobo Doodle To celebrate Filipino culture is also to celebrate its food, which is why Google put everyone’s favorite adobo front and center earlier this year. The mouthwatering illustration by Filipino-American Google artist Anthony Irwin calls back to the savory goodness of adobo, which is always enjoyed in different and unique ways among different cooks, households, and restaurants. The legendary Las Piñas Bamboo Organ This 2019 Doodle commemorating the 195th anniversary of the creation of the oldest, largest, and only bamboo pipe organ in the whole world brought immense pride to the Philippines. The Doodle is simple and powerful: the Gs, L, and E of Google were rendered in bamboo pipes, while the two Os are signified by the full organ. If you haven’t visited this at the St. Joseph Parish Church in Las Piñas, this is your sign to do it now. The colorful Regatta de Zamboanga With has 7,107 islands, the Philippines offers colorful rituals and traditions that are worth seeing. This includes the vivid Regatta de Zamboanga, a fluvial race held every October comprised of vintas, outrigger boats with vibrant and intricate sails. Google’s Doodle celebrating the Regatta last October is in-your-face, just like the parade of dazzling vintas — nothing complicated, just a bevy of boats with sails spelling out Google. Rosa Sevilla de Alvero’s 142nd Birthday Rsa Rosa Sevilla de Alvero is a journalist, educator, and activist who is widely considered one of the most influential suffragists in Filipino history. As a child, she was sent to live with her aunt, an educator who hosted Filipino patriots and intellectuals at her home. Sevilla often eavesdropped on their conversations about battling educational colonialism — revolutionary discussions that helped mold her beliefs. At just 21, Alvero founded the Instituto de Mujeres of Manila, one of the first schools for women.
