Globe advises customers to take precautions against scammers targeting G Music Fest
Globe warns customers against scammers targeting G Music Fest, one of the key events happening this weekend as part of the 917 G Day celebration. On social media, several suspicious accounts have been seen offering to sell passes to G Music Fest 2023, set on 16 September. The public should be wary of such offers, as these may be a ploy to access sensitive information. Globe reminds customers to get tickets on G Music Fest’s only official channel TixLive via www.tixlive.com.ph/gmusicfest. “We would like to advise our customers to please avoid engaging with individuals supposedly selling G Music Fest tickets online. These are fraudulent offers. You can only get tickets via Tixlive, our official channel,” said Jerome Patalud, head of Globe Rewards. Globe’s G Music Fest will be held on Saturday at the Ayala Circuit Makati Open Grounds, featuring an all-Filipino artist lineup. To learn more about the G Music Fest, visit glbe.co/GMusicFest23. Cloud-based solution benefits tourism SMEs
Fiber internet and technology solutions provider Converge ICT Solutions Inc. has partnered with another Filipino-owned firm, Comise Solutions Inc. to develop a cloud-based hotel management solution that will benefit local tourism and hospitality businesses. Converge chief operations officer Jesus C. Romero said Tuesday the project, dubbed Converge Workplace Hotel Management Solution, will give business owners more control and visibility over their operations. With the high-speed, pure connectivity of Converge and Comise’s expertise in hospitality management solutions, hotels can track their operations in a single platform, increasing their efficiency, profitability, and guest satisfaction. This can benefit about 150,000 micro, small and medium enterprises or MSMEs operating in the local tourism and hospitality sector. Accept direct bookings and payments “With this solution, small hotels and resorts now have the ability on their website to accept direct bookings and payments. For this to happen it means you automate the operations of the hotel,” Romero said. According to Jojo Abundancia, president of Comise Solutions, the project will help hotels to automate their hotel operations and accurately monitor the inventory, pricing and booking of guests. Apart from allowing hotels and resort owners to have their booking system, they can also manage room inventory, and manage the different departments of the hotel — from housekeeping and front desk to maintenance. One advantage of having a dedicated booking platform is eliminating the commission fee to pay to hotel booking aggregators, as hotels can accept booking themselves. Software turnkey product Additionally, as a software turnkey product, the hotel management solution does away with the need for an IT department or to install expensive hardware — the only requirement is a strong broadband connection, which Converge can provide to the MSME. Comise Solutions Inc. is a Filipino company involved in the development and delivery of technology-enabled solutions. It is the authorized reseller of the eZee Hospitality IT Solutions — Cloud Based Property Management System, Channel Manager, and Reservations Management System. Government data showed that MSMEs comprise 99.6 percent of all Philippine businesses, with an employment contributor of 64.67 percent of the total workforce. Of these MSMEs, the hospitality and tourism industry accounts for 14.1 percent, employing 670,040 people. The post Cloud-based solution benefits tourism SMEs appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Retailers, e-commerce apps secure booze sale
The online sale of liquor and cigarettes is a ticklish topic primarily since there is no guarantee that the youth can’t access these health hazards through the use of online marketplaces. Alcoholic beverage sellers have decided to take action by undertaking a pledge with the online platform operators, in the presence of government regulators on Thursday in Makati City. The pact was sealed among the Asia Pacific International Spirits & Wines Alliance or APISWA, the Alcoholic Beverages Alliance of the Philippines Inc. or ABAPI, and the online shopping platform Lazada, with the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines director general Roel Barba, and Department of Trade and Industry Competitiveness and Innovation Group chief Mary Jean Pacheco as witnesses. In his presentation, Barba disclosed that based on the report of the Transnational Alliance to Combat Illicit Trade or TACIT, the Philippines has incurred $438 million in losses due to illicit alcohol trade, while 44 percent of the total alcohol consumption in the Asean region were unrecorded since these have escaped regulations and taxes. “Reasons for unrecorded alcohol are smuggling, tax leakage, counterfeiting and illegal artisanal,” Hermance de la Bastide, director of APISWA, said. Based on a report by online research outfit Statista, five percent of Filipinos under the age of 16 to 24 are buyers of alcoholic drinks on social media as of the first quarter of 2023. The Philippines, on the other hand, ranked 8th among 12 countries in Asia with the highest purchase of alcohol using social media in the first quarter of 2023, while in 2022, the household final consumption expenditure of alcoholic beverages and tobacco in the country was valued at approximately P211.8 billion, growing 0.7 percent compared to the previous year. Integrity pledge The pledge primarily aims to develop and enhance safeguards to prevent the online sale and delivery of alcohol to minors, making the two groups collaborate in reinforcing regulations that prevent those below the legal purchase and drinking age from accessing alcohol products, and support the legitimate sales of alcohol in the online environment in the country. Under the pledge, ABAPI and APISWA members also vowed to ensure compliance with licensing, taxation, and other relevant organizations on the distribution and sales of alcohol by their respective companies and encourage online retailers to reinforce and or put in place safeguards to protect minors. Significantly, the pact seeks to promote the fight against illicit trade by providing a direct channel for e-commerce platforms to raise any suspicion about counterfeit alcohol and to request specific training to online platforms on how to identify counterfeit products. Meanwhile, the virtual marketplaces that signed the pledge said they will encourage the display of responsible drinking messages on all accounts or pages which list alcoholic beverages for sale and adopt age-screening technologies to reduce the potential for minors to have access to alcoholic products or partner platforms. “Online platforms are encouraged to put in place safeguards upon delivery of purchased alcoholic beverages to protect minors, including identification checks upon delivery and the screening of addresses,” the pledge read. Moreover, online selling to support the legitimate sale of alcoholic beverages online was stated. The post Retailers, e-commerce apps secure booze sale appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Word to the artistic
From national artists to award-winning actors and drag queens, inspirational words of advice from our local creatives Last year brought us to our knees, yet here we are standing tall with courage, facing 2021 with hope and a positive perspective. To give us more inspiration to create and explore new things this year, the Manila Bulletin has compiled some quotes from creative individuals, from national artists to award-winning actress. May their words of wisdom bring out the creative urges in all of us, as we make this world a better, more colorful, more meaningful place to live in. Kidlat Tahimik, national artist for film We are all adjusting to the new normal—new rules and new protocols. I’m sure that most artists are taking this time to take art deeper into their hearts. After all, you have nothing to do but just to be productive. *** Ian Inoy, biromantic pansexual artist Every move I made with my art before had this follow up question in my head, asking if it would look gay or not. Now that I’ve fully accepted myself, nothing like that matters anymore. I no longer have the fear of hearing people perceiving my art as “too gay or girly.” *** Heart Evangelista/Love Marie Ongpauco Escudero, actor, painter Express yourself in art. See how art can move you or distract you from distress or how art can bring the best out of you. I notice that my paintings have been a bit muted these days. I feel it’s a bit because of the drama that’s going on around us. In a weird way, I find beauty in sorrow and the way my colors have been coming out, I like what’s happening. I’ve always been like this anyway. I find something beautiful about my emotions, no matter how dark they are, and I translate all that into art. *** Whatsoever you do, if you do it joyfully, if you do it lovingly, if your act of doing is not purely economic, then it is creative.—Osho, Creativity unleashing the forces within *** Kate Adajar, blogger artist The uncertainty Covid-19 brings has triggered confusion, anxiety, and mixed emotions in me. But the lockdown has also given me time to focus on and practice my art. Being in quarantine has allowed me to look at my craft not only as a creative outlet but also as a form of stress release. It has suddenly become therapeutic and meditative. *** F. Sionil Jose, national artist for literature Photo by Noel Pabalate Artistry is something that is created not just by intellect but by passion. And you stop being a craftsman. That is when you become an artist. You cannot be an artist without being a craftsman first. *** Miz Kiki Krunch, drag queen I am more creative as a gay person. My drag persona brings out the best and most authentic part of me. I can express myself better, I can perform better when I channel my weirdness, my “freak,” my truth. *** Cherie Gil, actor Everything can be learned as long as one sets one’s mind and heart to it. There is also no age limit to learning anything. Acting—what is it really but reliving lives and telling their stories. But this requires a lot of work to excavate the instrument to be able to truthfully do just that. It’s not easy. It takes a lot of balls to share one’s personal inner sanctum. *** Iana Cris Forbes, owner of art shop Quiversmiths Pursue what you want. At first, it was hard for me because I wanted to be a painter, I wanted to be a sculptor, I wanted to be a graphic artist, I wanted to be a wedding colorist, I wanted to stitch, I wanted to make bags and shoes and jewelry. But I haven’t seen a person doing all of those!. Before, I could not see any future in them but here they are now. I’m doing everything all at once and I’m fine. I’m happy living multiple lives. It’s like connecting the dots. My hobbies are now my sources of living and I couldn’t be more thankful. *** BenCab, national artist for visual arts This pandemic gives artists more time for their art. It’s usually better for an artist to be locked-in because you work on your own. *** Natasha Aliño, jewelry artist It’s been said many times and my mother always says this whenever I feel frustrated, which most people would feel when they’re starting something new—“trust the process.” This is more of a reminder when you’re in that headspace. Another thing is when you are learning a certain skill, do it so with purpose and authenticity. Then you can confidently say after some time that you can indeed trust the process. Never stop learning and inspiring others on your journey. Photos from the artists’ respective social media accounts and websites.....»»

UAAP Season 82 celebrates unity and sportsmanship in virtual closing ceremony
Despite an abrupt end to UAAP Season 82 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the country’s premier collegiate league will officially wrap up the season on a high note with a virtual closing ceremony that will celebrate unity and sportsmanship in the entire UAAP community. The special online event, hosted by Mico Halili and Denice Dinsay of ABS-CBN Sports, will go live on July 25 (Saturday) at 4 pm on the ABS-CBN Sports website (sports.abs-cbn.com), Facebook, and YouTube accounts, with delayed telecast on LIGA cable sports channel at 7 pm. The closing ceremony will be a culmination of the first and second semester UAAP sports, highlighting the success and hard work of the eight member schools while also putting the spotlight on the athletes who were unable to finish their season due to the cancelation of the games. “Lalabas 'yun doon sa closing ceremonies, just to highlight na, one, as a community, as a nation, we are here to help everyone, that's one. And two, itong mga atleta na 'to na mga hindi nakapaglaro or natapos, they are part of Season 82," said UAAP Season 82 president Em Fernandez of host school Ateneo de Manila University in an interview with ABS-CBN News. UAAP announced the cancelation of Season 82 on April 7 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Second semester sports such as volleyball, football, baseball, softball, track and field, lawn tennis, and 3x3 basketball were not completed or did not start at all. The UAAP will also be awarding UST as general champions for both the high school and seniors divisions. This is the sixth straight overall championship for the Tiger Cubs and fourth straight for the Growling Tigers. Also set to receive their awards are the Season 82 MVPs for high school and college, while selected athlete-scholars from the different universities will also be recognized. The league, however, will be unable to award an Athlete of the Year for this season. The online gathering, according to ABS-CBN Integrated Sports head Dino Laurena, will celebrate the dedication of all athletes and the efforts of the entire UAAP community, noting that it has always been their mission in ABS-CBN Sports to honor and pay tribute to the work and dedication of athletes, no matter what the circumstances or challenges the sports organization is confronting. “ABS-CBN Sports remains faithful to its advocacy of promoting the values that sports teaches all of us. It is in this light that we want to pay tribute to our athletes who put in months of sacrifice and preparation to be able to play at a high level in the UAAP. We hope they stay hungry and passionate about the game they love, and we cannot wait to see them playing again,” he said. Spicing up the celebration are feature performances by ABS-CBN artists Ylona Garcia and Inigo Pascual. Sponge Cola and Itchyworms, the Pinoy rock bands that performed the official UAAP Season 82 anthem “Ang Ating Tagumpay” at the opening ceremony, will also make a special appearance. Sticking to Season 82’s theme of “All For More,” the UAAP will also recognize the efforts of schools and athletes by honoring those who have done charity work during the pandemic. Fans will also be able to look back at last season’s game highlights as well as hear from some of their favorite players. To formally symbolize the end of UAAP Season 82, there will be a virtual turning over of hosting duties of Ateneo to its rival school De La Salle University for Season 83. ABS-CBN Sports has been the official broadcaster of the UAAP since 2000. Together, they have championed sports among the Filipino youth, have given a break to many young, talented athletes, and strengthened the local sports community in the past two decades. Celebrate sports culture in the Philippines with Kapamilya sports fans by watching the UAAP Season 82 closing ceremony on July 25 (Saturday) at 4 pm on the ABS-CBN Sports website (sports.abs-cbn.com) and ABS-CBN Sports Facebook and YouTube accounts. Catch also the delayed telecast on cable sports channel LIGA at 7 pm, with a replay on July 26 at 4:30 pm.
