Kaya forges draw, retains top spot
TALISAY CITY -- Kaya FC Iloilo refused to be daunted by Dynamic Herb Cebu’s valiant effort and its energetic home crowd as the league leaders came away with a precious point in a crucial Philippines Football League clash last Sunday at the Dynamic Herb Sports Complex. Kaya’s Japanese winger Daizo Horikoshi struck his 14th goal of the season before Jacob Liao found the equalizer as the league’s top two teams settled for a 1-1 stalemate. It’s a crucial result for Kaya as it kept the two-point advantage over Cebu in the title race with only three matches left for both teams. Kaya still has to play Maharlika, Mendiola and Stallion Laguna, while Cebu has two remaining matches against Stallion and another one against the Azkals Development Team. “The players showed their worth,” said Kaya coach Yu Hoshide. “This was an important result for us.” Hosting the final meeting of the season against their biggest rivals put Cebu in a strong position to wrest top spot. But the Gentle Giants fell behind in the eighth minute when Mar Diano found Horikoshi at the far post for a close-range finish past Jun Badelic. Egged on by the home crowd, the Gentle Giants found the equalizer 11 minutes later when JB Borlongan floated in a free kick into the area. Liao was the quickest to react, slotting the ball past Zach Banzon to put the match back on a knife edge. Even with the opportunities in the second half, the Gentle Giants struggled to find a cutting edge to pick apart a resolute Kaya defense and Banzon on goal. “We needed to win to get the advantage and we were unable to get it,” Cebu coach Mehmet Kakil said. Kaya pips ADT, retakes top spot
Kaya FC-Iloilo bucked a slow start as it edged the Azkals Development Team, 3-2, to regain the lead in the Philippines Football League brought to you by Qatar Airways Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Japanese winger Daizo Horikoshi bagged a brace to increase his tally to 13 goals for the season while Jarvey Gayoso opened the scoring for Kaya, which now has two point advantage over Dynamic Herb Cebu with 45 points. Kaya last played almost a month ago and it took awhile for coach Yu Hoshide’s men to settle into the match. ADT found its passing rhythm early, hardly giving Kaya time on the ball but a moment of brilliance from Gayoso broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, beating Dimitrios Makapagal from a tight angle. “We didn’t expect the slow start today but at the end of the day, we won,” Hoshide said “Hopefully, next game starting kick-off, we will switch on,” The Young Azkals, whose core is gearing up for the Southeast Asian Games, equalized in the 22nd minute thanks to Andres Aldeguer who scored on a terrific strike finishing a flowing sequence involving Pocholo Bugas and Dennis Chung on the left hand side. Horikoshi got the go-ahead goal early in the second half pouncing on an error from Yrick Gallantes whose pass inside his own half was intercepted by Jhan Melliza, who squared the ball to Horikoshi for the finish. “This game was tough, especially in the first half because we were not good enough,” Horikoshi, who earned man of the match honors said. “We had a good conversation at the half and the coach said we have to give 100 percent to get the three points.” Milad Behgandom provided the ball to an on-rushing Horikoshi, who managed to beat the offside trap and fired the ball past Makapagal. Bugas gave ADT a lifeline with a 69th minute goal, but Kaya comfortably saw out the game. The post Kaya pips ADT, retakes top spot appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

United City FC rounds out roster with National Team keeper Anthony Pinthus
United City Football Club caps its full roster announcement, ahead of the FIFA transfer window deadline this week, with the signing of 22-year old Fil-Swiss goalkeeper — Anthony Pinthus from the Azkals Development Team, who also served as a goalkeeper for the Philippine Under-23 National Men's Football Team, during the 30th South East Asian Games campaign. Prior to his ADT stint, Pinthus was also affiliated with clubs such as FC Kosova, FC Wohlen, and GC Zurich U21. According to UCFC co-founder Eric Gottschalk, “True to our mission of developing young players, we have signed Antony Pinthus, on loan from ADT. This was also agreed on by both clubs and supported by Philippines National Head Coach Scott Cooper, to expose Pinthus to the AFC Cup competition. “ “He is the most promising goalkeeper of the Philippines after Neil and Roland and we are happy that he decided to join us for this season, as we believe that UCFC is the right platform to expose him to top Asian football, while learning from our veterans such as Stephan Schroeck and Bienve Maranon.” Gottschalk continues, “The signing of Pinthus marks the completion of the roster ahead of the transfer window deadline this week. As for the position of Head Coach, we have prepared a shortlist of a number of highly qualified individuals and we will make an announcement in due time.” Pinthus joins the roster, along with Stephan Shrock, OJ Porteria, Sean Patrick Kane, Ron Bayan, Jun Badelic, Angelo Marasigan, Robert Mendy, Arnie Pasinabo, Tristan Robles, Dennis Villanueva, Joshua Dutosme, Takashi Odawara, Hikaru Minegishi, Bienvenido Maranon, Mike Ott, Manuel Ott, Pocholo Bugas, Jordan Jarvis, Jorrel Aristorenas, and Jose Miguel Clarino......»»

Azkals skipper Stephan Schrock signs with United City FC as player/assistant coach
Philippine Azkals team captain Stephan Schrock is staying with a Philippine club football. After reportedly rejecting offers to play football overseas, the Filipino-German midfielder has signed a new deal with the newly-rebranded United City Football Club, formerly Ceres-Negros FC. “Having Stephan commit to stay at the new Club means a lot not just to the organization but also to the fans. He is the captain and the leader of the team and that is what is needed especially since we are trying to establish our new identity on and off the field," said UCFC co-founder Eric Gottschalk via the team's official release on their Facebook page. "It would have been a big loss for Philippines football if the captain would leave the PFL to compete elsewhere. His commitment to the local league shows his seriousness of trying to make a difference but also his trust in our vision for the Club." Schrock, who was also the team captain for Ceres-Negros, will remain as the leader for UCFC. Apart from that, Schrock will also become a playing-assistant coach and trainer. “Stephan will not only lead the team on the field as 'Captain', but also off the field as a playing-assistant coach / trainer, as a first step to fulfill his ambition to become a fully certified football coach in the coming years”, Gottschalk explained. “We will try to retain the key local talents and support the development of the PFL so we can start bringing some of the players back to the Philippines rather than losing them to rival leagues in Thailand or Indonesia”......»»
