Fish Burger Steak
It’s not easy to get kids to eat fish — and like it, too. So, here’s an easy way to encourage kids to eat this healthy fare. Fish, especially tuna, is very nutritious and a good source of protein. It contains adequate amount of healthy omega-3 fatty acids that enhance the immune system and reduce inflammation. “It’s always ideal to eat fish at least once a week to encourage your family to eat more and stay healthy,” says the award-winning chef-instructor and food/restaurant consultant Sonny Mariano. Quick and simple to prepare, this updated fish dish is made extra special by adding a rich, creamy and buttery sauce that you can pour over steamed or fried rice just before serving. To take it one — healthy — step further, instead of frying the patties, you can also bake them to reduce fat in your family’s diet. You can prepare the patties the night before, keep it cool in the fridge and cook it the next day. “This dish really makes a good and healthy addition on your family dining table,” said Mariano. Fish Burger Steak For Tuna Patties: 500 g Tuna fillet, minced 2 tbsp Onion, minced 1 tbsp Garlic, minced 2 tbsp Spring Onion 2 pcs Large Eggs 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs 1 tsp Salt 1/2 tsp Pepper For Sauce: 2 tbsp Butter 2 tbsp All Purpose Flour 2 tbsp Liquid Seasoning 1.5 c Fresh Milk 1/2 c Canned mushroom Pinch black pepper To make tuna patties, combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Divide into 1/2 c balls and carefully flatten to make patties. Chill for at least 30 minutes. Pan-fry the patties until golden brown. For the sauce: Melt the butter and add the flour. Cook well. Add the liquid seasoning, fresh milk and canned mushroom. Mix well and bring to a simmer until thick. Season with black pepper. Serve with garlic rice and egg. Each winning choral group in the different categories will take home cash prizes and a conh shell trophy designed by artist Mary Catherine Sta. Ana. The trophy resembles a large conch shell with a wide opening through which one may imagine listening to the sound of the seas that surround the Philippine islands. The parts of the shell suggest the form of a bird singing, taking inspiration from the theory that bird songs may have influenced the development of music. Pretty in pink: ‘Barbie’ marketing blitz hits fever pitch
Hollywood A-listers have been walking red carpets in hot pink, glitter is back, and companies from The Gap to Burger King are doing rose-colored collaborations: "Barbie" mania is everywhere as the hotly anticipated film hits theaters worldwide. Toy maker Mattel, who first unveiled the iconic doll in 1959, has reached about 100 licensing agreements for everything from roller skates to toothbrushes in connection to director Greta Gerwig's summer flick. Of course, Barbie is big in the beauty world too -- lipsticks, blushes and mirrors all bear the famous logo. "In the 30 years that I have been tracking and analyzing box offices and trends, I've never quite seen anything like this before," said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst at Comscore. "Barbie is tailor-made for marketing," he said. "It's perfect because Barbie is a toy, it's already a product, and beyond that, it's a lifestyle and a color." The movie, which stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as boyfriend Ken, has been hyped as one of the biggest blockbusters of the season, with numerous premieres held around the globe ahead of Friday's debut in US theaters. Of course, that promotion blitz has been curtailed at the 11th hour, with Hollywood actors now on strike over pay and other conditions. But the list of corporate partners is sure to keep the buzz going. Microsoft, Forever 21, Ulta Beauty, Hot Wheels, Chevrolet and even Progressive insurance are among the companies looking to cash in on Barbie mania. The influential color company Pantone even has a shade to match the zeitgeist: 219C is officially Barbie Pink. Mattel has even reached a deal with rival toy giant Hasbro, which will release a Barbie version of the classic board game Monopoly in the fall. In exchange, Mattel will showcase "Transformers" on its Uno card game in connection with a Hasbro film release. 'Irresistible' Robbie has embraced Barbiecore fashion at premieres around the world, recreating some of the doll's most iconic looks, but the Barbie lifestyle trend is also full steam ahead Airbnb is offering up a stay at Barbie's "Malibu DreamHouse" for two nights in connection with the film's debut. "Placed perfectly above the beach with panoramic views, this life-size toy pink mansion is a dream come true!" reads the listing. Singer John Legend and his model wife Chrissy Teigen took the plunge, posting a series of pictures on Instagram of their stay at the hot pink property. The most ubiquitous shade of pink used on the Warner Bros film's set, a retro bubblegum hue made by Rosco, was used in such great quantities that the shoot has been blamed for a global shortage. "It's just become a very irresistible proposition," said Dergarabedian, crediting both Warner Bros and Mattel with ensuring the buzz had staying power. Dergarabedian expects a strong opening weekend for Barbie, with around $75 million in North American ticket sales. 'Barbenheimer' The film is opening in parallel with another big Hollywood entry, the Christopher Nolan-directed "Oppenheimer," a biopic about the father of the atomic bomb. The unlikely face-off between the dark historical thriller and a fuchsia-tinted romp about a doll has created online buzz about a phenomenon dubbed "Barbenheimer." Dergarabedian said the coincidental timing of the openings had contributed to "unprecedented" fodder about the films on social media and beyond. Both movies are opening on the heels of another big-screen blockbuster, "Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning Part One," which led the domestic box office last weekend. A starry soundtrack includes tracks from Dua Lipa (who also appears in the film), Lizzo, and Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice, who recorded a cover of "Barbie Girl," a 1997 hit by Danish-Norwegian band Aqua. The original recording actually prompted a lengthy but unsuccessful trademark lawsuit by Mattel. The company subsequently embraced the song. The movie's arrival has also not been without controversy. Barbie has been banned in Vietnam over a scene with a fictitious world map criticized for allegedly showing China's claims in the disputed South China Sea. The Philippines allowed the film to be shown -- but asked that the map be blurred. The post Pretty in pink: ‘Barbie’ marketing blitz hits fever pitch appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
Feel like royalty at Tivoli’s Royal Lounge
When you’re starving, you want to wolf down on great food. You crave the familiar, the basic but lip-smacking delicious. You naturally pick your comfort food and wish to be satisfied, happy and full. [caption id="attachment_156739" align="aligncenter" width="525"] country burger.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_156741" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Pot roast beef braised in red wine.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_156742" align="aligncenter" width="525"] BBQ Pork Ribs.[/caption] That’s the idea behind the Royal Lounge, Tivoli Royale Country Club’s banner restaurant located on Yakal Street, Tivoli Royale Subdivision, Quezon City. It understands the concept of great food in a way that it does not need to impress. It just wants to make you happy. The al fresco poolside restaurant is unpretentious. Right next to a glistening turquoise pool, aesthetically pleasant dining tables and chairs are invitingly open to the hungry, or to big families with little kids, or to corporate yuppies for a hearty lunch meeting. The atmosphere at Royal Lounge is chill and friendly. The menu consists of familiar Filipino favorites but upgraded to an edgy hotel experience. Their chicken pork adobo, for example, has boiled egg and pickled papaya. They have pancit canton, beef nilaga, sinigang na sampaloc (pork or salmon, your choice) and even beef and ox tripe kare-kare. Their free-range chicken inasal with java rice is finger-licking good. At P580, it can serve up to three people. This popular Visayan dish of marinated chicken grilled over hot coals is mouthwatering, perfect for lunch after a dip in the pool. For shrimp enthusiasts, I highly recommend the Po’Boy — Louisiana-inspired crispy chunks of deep-fried freshwater shrimp sandwiched between Pistolet buns (all their yummy bread is baked in-house!), but made even more deliriously good with the Cajun spice blend, topped with pickle relish and remoulade sauce. Sous chef Jomhar Marcial’s Nasi Goreng is perhaps the ultimate breakfast meal. Inspired by Indonesia’s national dish, the rich and flavorful fried rice is cooked in a wok and served like a surprise underneath a perfectly concocted omelet and served with a side of chicken satay. Just opened a little over a year ago, the restaurant revamped its menu. Since then it has become quite popular not only among the country club members, but a favorite venue for social and corporate events for its pleasant and spacious area — and the scrumptious food. Thanks to executive chef Emmanuel “Jonnel” Roxas who specializes in Mediterranean cuisine and backed by experience in both hotel dining (the Sheraton Manila Bay, Pan Pacific Hotel Manila) and casual American dining (TGI Friday’s), the restaurant experience at Royal Lounge has elevated ever since his arrival. Chef Jonnel shared that he is collaborative, allowing his chefs in the kitchen to be creative and imaginative in putting their signature twist to already well-known dishes. But chef Jonnel says that he still makes sure that the food served to the members and guests is still familiar, because familiarity brings comfort. “Siyempre po, sa country club, normally, the families would want to have a place where they can relax and unwind, to bond,” he said. “Yung tema kasi dito is: ‘I want to eat something I can eat, and my family can eat’. The concept is familiarity.” “The guests are not going to spend a lot of time thinking what to eat, so they will get a burger, club sandwich, pizza — the familiar, humble and simple everyday favorites,” he further explained. But chef Jonnel’s creativity in these “simple” dishes is notable. His European taste, for example, is evident in his pot roast beef, braised in red wine sauce, as if you are tasting Julia Child’s recipe of Beef Bourguignon — designed for family dining. It is a savory delight, the beef melts in the mouth and you are suddenly transported to east-central France, in Burgundy. For young kids, the menu does not disappoint with a wide selection of meals that will keep them coming back: beef and bacon sliders, cheesy macaroni, mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders and fries, spaghetti and a lot more. The country club burger, meanwhile, is a sight to behold. Towering and crammed with cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, bacon and a fat, juicy patty in the center of it all, which is so thick it’s like meatloaf. I had to break it down just so I can fit every single layer in my mouth. The BBQ pork ribs with a side of corn is another memorable experience — fall-off-the-bone tender. But what truly made an impact on me was the new experience: Chef Jonnel’s Tapa Don Galo, a recipe close to his heart as he grew up in the coastal town of Don Galo in Paranaque, where tapas are the specialty. One spoonful of the Tapa Don Galo is like eating the complete tapsilog experience with fried garlic sprinkled on top. It is heavenly. It comes with four kinds of dipping sauces: banana ketchup, white vinegar, chopped chili and rock salt. Mix, match, ignore, you can customize your dipping sauce. But, personally, the tapa alone is a winner. Believe me, you will dream about it for days. If you are on the hunt for afive-star hotel dining experience of your all-time favorites and more, the Royal Lounge is the ideal place. Sure, you can get a burger anywhere, or a gising-gising, or a country-fried chicken, but what the Royal Lounge does is that it adds a magic sprinkle of specialness to every dish, making it still comfortable but deliciously unique. An Unforgettable Burger Experience
[caption id="attachment_135034" align="aligncenter" width="525"] PHOTOGRAPHS BY DARA ROA for the daily tribune | with my husband Daniel and the amazing Taiki Rattanapong Tsubota.[/caption] It was a quick trip to Bangkok in February with my husband. We promised ourselves to explore new neighborhoods and visit new places other than those we frequent. So, we committed to our adventure and went on a discovery spree into Silom (Saladaeng), Chinatown, Talad Noi, Ekkamai, Taling Chan, and visited a new mall called Icon Siam. All neighborhoods had their own unique charms that flaunted an abundance of sights and flavors. One of our most unforgettable meals during this trip was surprisingly not Thai food. It was a unique burger experience at a hidden kitchen studio in one of Bangkok’s hippest neighborhoods called Ekkamai. [caption id="attachment_135029" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Watermelon and Feta Cheese Salad — 90 percent frozen watermelon, feta cheese, tomato juice, balsamic glaze and mint.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_135030" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Crystal Beef Taco — crystal bread, tahini and sour cream, Mexican-style seasoned minced beef, pomegranate and lime.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_135028" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Mura”corn”mi — toasted garlic bread, smoked corn, cream corn sauce and corn soup.[/caption] Homeburg is definitely a place to visit. Homeburg is the brainchild of Taiki Rattanapong Tsubota who started his journey with a burger shop that went viral as he only took an extremely limited number of customers to cook and serve only four crafted burgers per day at a price that the customers are willing to pay. With a months-long waitlist and its popularity skyrocketing into the globalsphere, it was a shock to everyone that Homeburg version 1.0 closed its doors. But fast forward to today, he reopened Homeburg with an open kitchen concept and served only eight seats at a time at 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. daily and will only accept reservations of two, four or eight. If you were three people, you would have to pay for four. [caption id="attachment_135033" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Homeburg Prototype#1 — Japanese milk bun, finely chopped pickled jalapeños paste, dashi cheese, pickles, crispy bacon, lemon syrup, rayu, and Homeburg sauce.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_135032" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Ultrasonic Fries — Chiang Mai potato and salt[/caption] [caption id="attachment_135031" align="aligncenter" width="525"] Steak Plate — Denver steak, beef jus, deep-fried sweet fish sauce, brussel sprout, potato custard and pumpkin puree.[/caption] Having some background knowledge of Homeburg, we booked our seats about two weeks before we left for Bangkok. But when we got to Bangkok, I got a message from Taiki saying their oven broke down so he would have to move or cancel our booking. I refused. I told him I had faith that the oven situation would be resolved and thankfully, it was! So, we were able to experience all the magic that Taiki has passionately worked on to come up with a menu that’s completely divine. His kitchen is literally his lab where he combines his creativity with science as he creates new dishes and tries to perfect existing ones.
