Malaysian firm spending $1.5-M to bring Korean bakery to Phl
Berjaya Food (International) Sdn. Bhd, a Malaysian company, is eyeing to invest $1.5 million to establish five Paris Baguette stores, a South Korean bakery chain, in the country. Dato’ Sydney Quays, Group CEO of Berjaya Food Berhad, in an interview with reporters last week, said the first store, planned to be inside a highly-dense mall in Metro Manila, will be open within the next six months. Quays pointed out that every Paris Baguette store typically requires an investment of $300,000. Thus, for the five stores that it plans to open within a year, investments may reach at least $1.5 million. “What we want to do when we open is to have a full-pledged Paris Baguette experience, meaning we would carry the full range of Paris Baguette,” Quays said. “There's no real competition for Paris Baguette. There's no other cafe that looks like Paris Baguette, that has the same products as Paris Baguette. It's a niche by itself. I'm very confident that they will do really well,” he added. At a ceremony last week, Paris Baguette Philippines Inc. signed the master franchise agreement with Berjaya Food (International) Sdn. Bhd. and Middle Trade Inc., and Paris Baguette Singapore to introduce the South Korean café bakery in the local market. Berjaya Food International, also the master franchisor of casual dining restaurant Kenny Rogers Roasters, has long seen the robust potential of the Philippine market with its local franchisee Middle Trade Inc. “The entry of Paris Baguette in the Philippines marks a milestone in our continuous expansion in the ASEAN Region,” he added. Paris Baguette premium bakery brand has been a leader in the Korean bakery industry by introducing and developing European-style bakery culture for the first time in Korea through its collection of pastries, breads and cakes.
