TGP’s Teves off the hook
The Anti-Terrorism Council clarified on Thursday that Talino at Galing ng Pinoy Partylist Representative Jose “Bong” Teves Jr. is not included among those who have been designated as terrorists with Negros Oriental Third District Representative Arnolfo Teves Jr. In a statement released by the Department of Justice, the ATC stated that TGP’s Teves is not affiliated with or a member of the Teves Terrorist Group. “The decision, which is based on reliable intelligence, exclusively pertains to Mr. Arnolfo Teves Jr. and Mr. Henry Pryde Teves. There is no link to Congressman Jose ‘Bong’ Teves Jr. of the TGP Partylist,” said the ATC in a statement. From Catanduanes in the Bicol Region, “Bong” Teves conveyed in a privilege speech last March. “Our family from the province of Catanduanes, Bicol Region, has no involvement or connection with the issue of the attack against Governor Degamo of Negros Oriental,” Teves said. To recall, the ATC labeled the embattled Negros Oriental Third District representative and 12 others as terrorists due to their alleged involvement in multiple provincial killings and acts of harassment. The ATC Resolution 43 dated 26 July said that they were accused of committing various terrorist acts, including planning, training, preparing and facilitating terrorism, as well as recruiting and being members of a terrorist organization, and providing logistical support to terrorists. Those who were identified as terrorists under the Anti-Terrorism Act were Arnie Teves, Pryde Henry A. Teves, Marvin H. Miranda, Rogelio C. Antipolo, Rommel Pattaguan, Winrich B. Isturis, John Louie Gonyon, Daniel Lora, Eulogio Gonyon Jr., Tomasino Aledro, Nigel Electona, Jomarie Catubay and Hannah Mae Sumero Oray. The expelled congressman has been implicated as the mastermind behind the high-profile killing of Governor Roel Degamo and several others. Bong Go supports reimposition of death penalty for crimes involving illegal drugs
Sen. Bong Go, on Sunday, 28 May, reiterated his support for the reimposition of the death penalty in cases involving heinous crimes related to illegal drugs. In an ambush interview after personally aiding struggling residents in Sariaya, Quezon, Go emphasized the need to instill fear in criminals and highlighted the devastating impact of drug-related offenses on countless innocent lives and families. "Alam n'yo, basta involved sa heinous crime, dapat talaga lethal injection. Kailangan takutin mo talaga. Go stated firmly. He stressed that the death penalty, if implemented, can be a deterrent to heinous crimes. Go said that there should be consequences for those who take the lives of others. The senator then highlighted the efforts of former president Rodrigo Duterte to combat the illegal drug trade and the ensuing problems it brought to society. According to Go, when drugs flood the streets, crime and corruption inevitably follow. During the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs hearing on Tuesday, Go inquired with the PNP leadership regarding their stance on potentially appointing former president Duterte as the country's anti-drug czar, taking into account the significant decrease in crime rates during his term. Go mentioned that the former president would be a valuable asset in the role, saying, "Ibig sabihin ang kailangan dito ay talagang kamay na bakal, takutin mo talaga. Pero kailangan may ngipin. Kung gagawin man siyang drug czar dapat may ngipin kasi kapag walang ngipin hindi katatakutan 'yan." The senator also expressed disappointment in the reported corruption among police officers involved in drugs, highlighting the destructive impact of drug proliferation on the institution mandated to protect innocent lives and families. Go calls for continuing campaign vs illegal drugs, criminality
Amid the prevalence of drug cases even involving some members of the Philippine National Police, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go has called on the government to adopt stricter and more robust measures to address the persistent challenges of illegal drugs and criminality in the country. In an ambush interview after his visit to Sta. Cruz, Manila on Wednesday, 24 May, Go acknowledged that eradicating illegal drugs and criminality requires a multifaceted approach, encompassing both law enforcement and social reform. Drawing inspiration from the successful campaigns during former president Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, Go expressed that similar strong-arm tactics and approaches are necessary to continue building a safer society. He likewise added that a renewed focus on combating drug issues will contribute to a safer and more secure country. Kailangan talagang takutin,” Go urged. During the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs hearing on Tuesday, 23 May, Go asked the PNP leadership about the possibility of tapping former president Duterte as the government’s anti-drug czar, considering the latter’s campaign saw a notable decline in crime rates. Kung gagawin man siyang drug czar dapat may ngipin kasi kapag walang ngipin hindi katatakutan ‘yan,” Go asserted. Matatakot at matatakot talaga ‘yan.” The senator also stressed the importance of immediately addressing underlying issues that contribute to these problems. He has called for stronger coordination among various law enforcement agencies to ensure a holistic approach in combating these issues. In the end, Go said that he is convinced that President Marcos possesses the necessary determination to implement effective measures that will address the drug problem at its core, highlighting, “Alam ko naman na seryoso po ang ating administrasyon na sugpuin po ang iligal na droga. The post Go calls for continuing campaign vs illegal drugs, criminality appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
