Bianca Umali to star in ‘Encantadia’ spin-off series ‘Sang’gre’
Bianca Umali is currently “booked and busy,” especially now that she is confirmed to be a part of the highly-anticipated spin-off series Sang’gre. On 23 October, Umali confirmed in a televised interview that she would play Terra, the daughter of the major character Danaya, in the spin-off. “Hindi ko hiniling pero pinagkaloob pa rin sakin (I didn’t ask for it but it was given to me), that’s why I’m very, very thankful... I assure [you] that they will not be disappointed; I will not fail anyone,” Umali said, thanking her supporters and her home network for trusting her with this big project. The 23-year-old actress added that she has been working hard on her character as if she were preparing for a Marvel movie. She is currently undergoing training in arnis, the same weapon used by Danaya in the 2005 and 2016 versions of Encantadia. “I am preparing my physique for it, I am preparing my skills for it, and I have been studying everything about Encantadia,” she said. The actress revealed that she dreamt of being a part of the 2016 reboot, but she wasn’t called in for an audition nor she was considered for a role. “Na-realize ko na kaya pala, hindi pala dapat ako nalungkot nung mga oras na ‘yon na akala ko hindi ako kasali kasi meron palang ganito, meron palang para sa akin” (I realized that I needn’t have been sad that I wasn’t able to join, because eventually there was something also for me). During the San Diego Comic-con in July, resident GMA director Mark Reyes revealed the series concept art, to which Umali commented with a leaf emoji that hinted at her upcoming role in the series. Encantadia’s spin-off series has been officially in the works for a long time. In January 2022, Reyes posted a screenshot of a Zoom meeting with the show’s creative team on Instagram. Based on Reyes’ Instagram post, Encantadia’s creative team is composed of seasoned and talented individuals in the industry, including Encantadia creator Suzette Doctolero, screenwriter and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee, creative heads RJ Nuevas and AliNokom-Dedicatoria, and writers Anna Aleta, Ays de Guzman and Jake Somera. Encantadia is a 2005 classic fantasy television series that revolves around four sisters or sang’gres tasked to be the new keepers of powerful gemstones. It starred Iza Calzado, Sunshine Dizon, Karylle and Diana Zubiri. A reboot was released in 2016, featuring Kylie Padilla, Glaiza de Castro, Gabbi Garcia and Sanya Lopez. Pag-IBIG collections up to P67B in Q3 as more members increase savings
Pag-IBIG Fund members collectively saved P66.73 billion during the first nine months of 2023, up by P6.3 billion or 10% year-on-year, as more members contributed more than the required Pag-IBIG monthly savings, agency officials announced Monday (23 Oct). "We are happy that more Filipino workers are saving with Pag-IBIG Fund. The trust and confidence in our savings programs continue to grow as proven by our record-high members’ savings collections in January to September 2023. This is good news because the increase in the savings collected shall allow us to finance the increasing demand for our home loans and short-term loans, and thus allow us to serve more members. This is in line with the directive of President Marcos to provide financial access to better the future of every Filipino,” said Secretary Jose Rizalino L. Acuzar, who heads the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) and the 11-member Pag-IBIG Fund Board of Trustees. Pag-IBIG Fund Chief Executive Officer Marilene C. Acosta, meanwhile, noted that the collections from the agency’s mandatory Regular Savings and voluntary MP2 Savings both increased during the period and have posted new record-highs. Collections from the Pag-IBIG Regular Savings amounted to P31.6 billion, an increase of 7% from the P29.6 billion from the same period last year. The amount includes P7.69 billion in upgraded savings from members, or savings which members have voluntarily entrusted with Pag-IBIG Fund on top of the required monthly savings. The agency’s MP2 Savings, on the other hand, sustained its popularity as collections reached P35.13 billion, a 14% increase from the P30.81 billion collected as of September last year. “The record-high in members’ savings we collected from January to September this year shows the wider appreciation of our members on the benefits of saving with Pag-IBIG Fund. We are grateful that the biggest growth areas in our savings collections come from our voluntary MP2 Savings and from members who save more than their mandated monthly savings,” Acosta said. “We recognize that our members’ trust in our programs stems from how we have gained competitive returns on their savings over the past many years. We highly value that trust and that is why we assure them that we shall continue to prudently manage their hard-earned savings. That is the Lingkod Pag-IBIG way,” Acosta added.....»»
LTO chief to pursue smoother, faster transaction
Despite a court injunction issued on the delivery of plastic cards used for driver's licenses, Land Transportation Office chief Vigor Mendoza on Tuesday said the agency will pursue its full digitalization in all LTO transactions. "(That is one of) the core foundations that I want to establish since I assumed the top post of the agency in July," Mendoza said. He added it is in line with the marching order of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., and "this what we are going to pursue as part of his legacy under his reform slogan 'Bagong Pilipinas' which focuses on making all government transactions smoother, faster and more comfortable for the Filipino people." The LTO, Mendoza said, is already providing all services related to land transportation with a new online portal, called Land Transport Management System (LTMS), which integrates all LTO services in a single database and digital platform. The system is designed to allow stakeholders to connect directly to the LTMS via customized online portals. The stakeholders have different workflows with specific requirements, e.g., biometric verification before uploading a certificate. "In the case of the LTMS, we in the LTO do not want to delve further into the things that were not done that resulted in the glitches and missed opportunities for its full utilization," Mendoza explained. "Instead, I have been focusing on fixing all these problems in the soonest possible time in order for us to deliver the long-overdue reliable and comfortable services not only to all our clients across the country but also to our kababayans abroad," he added. "This is the reason why I immediately created a Technical Working Group (TWG) when I assumed the top LTO post—to iron out all these glitches by consolidating the LTMS system and the old IT system of LTO because there are some services that could not be served by the LTMS and remain under the old system," Mendoza stressed. He explained that by consolidating these two systems, "I am confident that these would result in full utilization of a user-friendly online transaction process which is what the LTO digitalization program envisions it to be." "Right now, the good news is that we are in the final phase of consolidating these systems and hopefully, we will be able to launch it before the end of November this year," Mendoza further explained. "For the driver’s license issuance, for instance, it Is 100 percent LTMS while the renewal of motor vehicle registration is now at 90 percent LTMS. For the newly registered units or NRUs, it was all under the old IT system but right now, it is now at 60 percent LTMS," the LTO chief said. "There are still things to be done to make the entire IT system glitch-free, and that is the reason why we are now working double to make it available in the soonest possible time. I assure all our kababayan that we will not stop until all of these are consolidated to be fully operational, with the end goal of making all the LTO digital transactions reliable, fast, and glitch-free," Mendoza assured.
