P680K shabu seized from 4 druggies
Four individuals were arrested in a drug-sting operation in a rented house in Barangay San Dionisio, Parañaque City Monday night. According to P/Maj. Francis Aldrich Garcia, officer in charge of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, his office received an information about the clandestine sale of illegal drugs in the area. He said the confidential informant told them the group is operating their illegal drug transaction in the southern Metro area. A week-long surveillance operation was conducted until a poseur buyer from the intelligence group of RDEU struck a deal with the group thus the operation. Authorities seized a digital weighing scale and two plastic sachet of suspected illegal drugs with 100 grams inside amounting to P680,000. Two of the suspects, who was not named, claimed they were just told to go to the said rented house and they have no knowledge about the illegal transactions there. But they admitted using illegal drugs or shabu but denied they were selling the same. The suspects will be charged for violating RA 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. Garcia, on the other hand, lamented the delay of the inventory of the seized illegal drugs due to the absence of barangay officials in Barangay San Dionisio. He said they decided to coordinate with the barangay before they proceeded with the operation but no official was on duty at that time. Garcia said the job already prospered as they already arrested the four suspects but nobody from their kagawads and even the barangay chairman was available. Under Section 21 of RA 9165 o Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2022 the presence of the media, Department of Justice, and elected official is needed for the inventory of the seized illegal drugs. But since there was no available barangay official, they decided to call a barangay kagawad in the adjacent barangay of the city. Nasino, 2 other political detainees acquitted
A Manila court has acquitted Reina Mae Nasino and two other political detainees Alma Moran and Ram Bautista nearly four years after being arrested. The court granted demurrer to evidence, which means that the cases against Nasino and two others are already dismissed. The court order states that the pieces of evidence were not presented in the court, and that the photographs cannot fill the full “evidentiary need” of the prosecution. “The pieces of seized evidence were neither marked nor identified in this Court. To prove their very existence, the prosecution heavily relied on the photographs taken by P/Cpl. Jacinto.” Another factor for the court’s decision was the inconsistent messages of prosecution witnesses where the firearms, ammunition and explosives were found. They added that the main witnesses were not presented in court. Only photographs of the seized firearms were presented in the court, and not the firearms itself. “For mere photographs might not fill in fully the evidentiary need of the Prosecution. Concededly, there is no evidence to speak of being the core of the offenses charged,” the court order added. The same court granted them their release order last December 2022, due to weak evidence. The local barangay chairman and the policeman who were tasked to do the photographs failed to identify the accused wherein the firearms were recovered. Reina Mae Nasino gave birth in 2020 while being detained. With Baby River only weighing 5.5 pounds and being separated immediately from her mother, she died before reuniting with her mother again. Nasino’s acquittal came nearly three years after Baby River’s death. The post Nasino, 2 other political detainees acquitted appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Another photo journo slay suspect nabbed
Another suspect in the Abiad family shooting incident last 29 June was collared by operatives of the Quezon City Police District Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit at a provincial bus station in Cubao on Thursday afternoon. QCPD Director, Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, said suspect Jomari dela Cruz, 24, of Southville 3, Poblacion, Muntinlupa City, was nabbed at around 4:30 p.m. of 13 July at the Solid North Transit Bus Terminal on EDSA. Torre said QCPD-CIDU operatives under Maj. Don Don Llapitan received a tip from an informant that Dela Cruz would be arriving at the bus terminal from Pangasinan where he had been hiding. Torre said the cops were waiting and at 4:30 p.m., Dela Cruz, alias “Mata” and “Alexis,” was spotted walking in front of the terminal. The suspect was the one seen on CCTV riding the pink motorcycle that was tailing the vehicle of the Abiad family before the ambush. Recovered from him was a 9mm pistol with eight rounds in a gray sling bag. Dela Cruz is under the custody of the CIDU along with Eduardo Legazpi II, alias “Bingbong,” the alleged gunman who was arrested on 7 July. Torre said a case of violating RA 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, is being prepared against Dela Cruz and will be filed before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office. Aside from the photojournalist, members of Abiad’s family and Jeffrey Ngo Cao, a bystander and resident of Barangay Apolonio Samson, Quezon City, were also wounded during the ambush. Abiad’s four-year-old niece who was hit in the head succumbed to injuries last weeken. A manhunt is continuing for the other suspects, including a former Pasay City barangay chairman known as “Nadnad.” As this developed, Philippine National Police chief, Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., said they are looking at lowering the fees for the “Permit-To-Carry” to encourage gun owners to regularly renew their firearm licenses and documents. Acorda made the comment on the sidelines of the 1st PNP Press Corps Invitational Shootfest held at Camp Karingal, Sikatuna Village, Quezon City which started Friday until 16 July. One suspect nabbed in QC ambush vs. photojournalist, family
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Brig. Gen. Nicolas Torre III on Tuesday announced the arrest of one of the suspects behind the shooting incident that wounded a photojournalist, six of his relatives, and a bystander in Quezon City last June 29. In a press conference held at QCPD headquarters in Camp Karingal, Torre identified the suspect as Eduardo Almario Legazpi, a member of a gun-for-hire group, as behind the shooting of Joshua Abiad, a photojournalist of tabloid Remate. He was arrested last Friday in Muntinlupa City. Torre said the suspect is one of the five he previously showed in the diagram, including the mastermind, but he did not reveal the real identity of the suspects as authorities' still had ongoing follow-up operations. He added that certain Barangay Chairman Nanad is the mastermind behind the assassination. Torre said the motive behind the attack is because Nanad suspected Abiad to be the source of negative information against him. Abiad suffered two bullet wounds during the gun attack on 29 June 2023. Two other occupants of the vehicles, both minors, were also wounded, one of them later died in a hospital. Police investigators already released images of three gunmen based on the CCTV footage they obtained. Torre III said aside from the photojournalist, also wounded in the attack were members of Abiad's family: Renato Jr., Cheryl and Elizabeth, three minors aged 6 and 8; and Jeffrey Ngo Cao, a bystander and resident of Barangay Apolonio Samson, Quezon City. Initial reports showed the Abiad family was heading home onboard their vehicle, driven by Renato, when they were ambushed by four unidentified assailants at the corner of Corumi and Gazan streets in Barangay Masambong, Quezon City on 29 June. Torre said the suspects then immediately fled towards Del Monte Avenue, also in Quezon City, using their getaway vehicle.
