Soprano Lara Maigue to sing national anthem at 2nd SONA
The "surprise" singer that House secretary general Reginald Velasco said will perform the "Lupang Hinirang" at the second State of the Nation Address of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Monday, 24 July, has been revealed to be soprano Lara Maigue. Velasco himself made the revelation in a radio interview on Friday, 21 July 21. “Ang balita namin, there will be a singer ng Pambansang Awit natin. Ang pangalan niya ay Lara Maigue. Tinignan namin ‘yun sa YouTube. Very famous pala siya,” he said. Velasco had earlier been coy about the identity of the singer who will sing the national anthem at the second SONA, to supposedly generate more excitement among the public. “Up to now, surprise," he said, because "gusto ng tatlong grupo — Senate, House of Representatives and then the Office of the President — may excitement. So surprise din... Ang tip ko lang, isang tao lang.” Maigue, a classically trained singer and recording artist, has headlined a number of concerts and has won the Aliw Awards twice -- in 2017 for Best Classical Performer and in 2018 for Best Female Crossover Performer. To date, she has 354,000 followers on Instagram and 160,000 followers on Facebook. The post Soprano Lara Maigue to sing national anthem at 2nd SONA appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Enrique Gil makes comeback in ‘sexy comedy’ film
After a three-year hiatus, ABS-CBN star Enrique Gil is making his movie comeback with a sexy comedy. The 31-year-old actor announced on Wednesday through a media launch that he is set to join a comedy film that will air this year under the direction of Victor Villanueva and writers Joma Labayen and Lilit Santos. The movie, titled I Am Not Big Bird, is co-produced by ABS-CBN Films, ANIMA Studios, and Black Sheep Films. Gil’s last movie outing was the hit Alone/Together, co-starring his long-time onscreen partner, Liza Soberano. [caption id="attachment_158091" align="aligncenter" width="953"] AFTER a three-year hiatus, ABS-CBN star Enrique Gil (left most) is making his movie comeback with a sexy comedy.PHOTOGRAPH COURTESY IG/ NIKKO NATIVIDAD[/caption] Riotous comedy In I Am Not Big Bird, he will play the role of Luis Carpio, a Filipino tourist who, as the actor put it, “reconnects with his barkada, goes to Thailand for this crazy adventure and, pagdating doon, kamukha niya si Big Bird”. In the story, Big Bird is a Thai porn actor. Writer Lilit Santos said the film’s story was inspired by a real incident that took place during a foreign trip they had in the 2000s. “Dinudumog kami, ‘di dahil sa amin, sa kasama ko. We found out that my friend looks exactly like a Japanese porn actor,” Santos recalled. So “it’s a nice riotous comedy — male barkada na magtatravel ng barko pero ‘di alam ng bida natin na may kamukha siyang porn actor sa Thailand,” Santos added. Joining Gil in the movie are Pepe Herrera, Nikko Natividad, and Red Ollero. Director Villanueva was behind the 2016 film Patay na si Hesus, which won the Jury’s Choice Award during the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino held that year. ‘Back to zero’ Gil said that, having come from a long hiatus, “parang back to zero na rin ako. It’s going to feel new again.” The new film, he stressed, means he’s open to doing other genres now aside from the rom-com that he had previously starred in. For this venture, Gil also created his own production company to co-produce the film. “I want to leave a legacy somewhat, so I created this production company to focus on creating projects that can break through internationally,” Gil said in an interview. I Am Not Big Bird is expected to be shown this year in the country, with an international screening being eyed early next year. ‘Na-shock yung tatay ni Awra’
"Galit ba si Vice kay Awra?" That was the question posed to Ogie Diaz in a recent episode of the showbiz writer-vlogger's YouTube show -- whether superstar Vice Ganda, who had served as "elder sister" to Awra Briguela, was mad over the latter's involvement in a brawl in a Makati pub that led to Briguela being hauled off to jail and slapped with charges. Vice had jokingly described a rowdy moment in his show "It's Showtime" as "pang-Poblacion", and viewers interpreted that as a subtle show of disapproval by Vice toward his wayward "anak-anakan". Ogie, a good friend of Vice, only said: "Alam ni Vice na mali si Awra." The more juicy revelation had to do with Awra's whereabouts. If true, Vice has a justifiably bigger reason to be mad at Awra than the young star's involvement in a bar fracas, which, per Ogie -- citing a source of his -- even led to the young star losing a project already in the bag. "Ang nakakaloka, June 30 naganap 'yung insidente sa Pobla, July 1 dapat kasama sa launch si Awra sa isang show," he said. But Awra ended up in jail and with huge controversy around her neck, so she was dropped from the project. "Big lesson" for Awra, added Ogie. He also revealed that Awra, his father and Vice are set to have a meeting to sort things out. “So magmi-meeting daw sina Vice, Awra at ‘yung tatay. Sana maayos. Sana ‘yung nangyari, e, magsilbing aral at sana iwasan ni Awra ang sobrang barkada, sobrang inom.” The post ‘Na-shock yung tatay ni Awra’ appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
