So why did KC unfollow stepdad Kiko, stepsister Frankie on IG?
KC Concepcion has confirmed unfollowing her stepfather, former Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, and her half-sister Frankie Pangilinan on Instagram, saying she just wants “peace of mind.” The 38-year-old actress-entrepreneur’s mother, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, is married to Kiko. The couple have three children: Frankie, 22; Miel, 19; and Miguel, 13. KC, whose father is Sharon’s ex-husband and former love team partner Gabby Concepcion, made the confirmation in an interview with Cristy Fermin in the 29 August episode of the showbiz commentator’s program Cristy FerMinute on One PH teleradio news channel. Talagang lahat po pinupuna.” (It’s not bad to unfollow someone. It just becomes a big deal when it’s a showbiz family and everything gets scrutinized.) “Ako kasi,” she added, “I think, ’yung sa akin is more of, like I said, may mga complicated po talaga pagdating sa blended family. Meron din po talagang mga times na hindi perfect. Hindi po kami perpekto. And hindi po lagi kailangang perfect. (There are complications when it comes to blended family. There are times when we aren’t perfect. And we don’t need to be perfect.) “So, wala naman po akong gustong ikuwento pa apart from the fact na, ako, I just want peace of mind. I want to be happy. I want my family to be happy. Ang gusto ko lang maging light, masaya. Ayoko ng maraming drama. (I don’t want to go into details except to say I just want peace of mind… I don’t like too much drama.) “’Yung forgiveness kasi sa family, important din ’yun siguro para maging okay ’yung takbo ng relationship ng lahat. And sometimes, mas gusto kong piliin ’yung peace of mind ko.” (Forgiveness should be important in a family for things to be smooth. Sometimes, I just choose what’s good for my peace of mind.) She added meaningfully, “Talaga pong ginagawa ko ang lahat para maging mabuting anak, mabuting ate” (I’m doing everything I can to be a good daughter and a good older sister). In addition to her three siblings from her mother’s side, KC has four sisters from her father’s side. The two are Garie Concepcion, likewise an actress whose mother is entrepreneur Grace Ibuna, and Cloie Syquia-Skarne, who’s based in Sweden with her mother, former actress Jenny Syquia. Then there are Samantha and Savannah, whose mother, Genevieve Yatco Gonzales is the current wife of Gabby Concepcion. Despite the seeming rift in the family, KC said she’s “very close” to her half-siblings. “I just think na may mga moments na wala na akong control… May mga panahon din po na parang isipin ko muna ’yung mental health ko, kung ano ’yung makakabuti sa peace of mind ko,” she reiterated. (I just think there are moments that are out of my control, and I have to think of my mental health first, what’s good for my peace of mind.) KC’s parents Sharon and Gabby, whose 1984 marriage was annulled in 1993, are reuniting onstage for Dear Heart, the Concert on 27 October at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. KC had said in a press interview that she’d feel left out if she didn’t have any participation in the much-awaited reunion, as she is the only offspring of the fabled ex-couple. India becomes first nation to land spacecraft near Moon’s south pole
India on Wednesday became the first nation to land a craft near the Moon's south pole, a historic triumph for the world's most populous nation and its ambitious, cut-price space program. The unmanned Chandrayaan-3, which means "Mooncraft" in Sanskrit, touched down at 6:04 pm India time (1234 GMT) as mission control technicians cheered wildly and embraced their colleagues. Its landing comes days after a Russian probe crashed in the same region and four years since the previous Indian attempt failed at the last moment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi smiled broadly and waved an Indian flag on a live broadcast to announce the mission's success as a triumph that extended beyond his country's borders. "On this joyous occasion I would like to address the people of the world," said Modi from the sidelines of the BRICS diplomatic summit in South Africa. "India's successful moon mission is not just India's alone," he added. "This success belongs to all of humanity." The Chandrayaan-3 mission has captivated public attention since launching nearly six weeks ago in front of thousands of cheering spectators. Politicians staged Hindu prayer rituals to wish for the mission's success and schoolchildren followed the final moments of the landing from live broadcasts in classrooms. Chandrayaan-3 took much longer to reach the Moon than the Apollo missions in the 1960s and 1970s, which arrived in a matter of days. India used rockets much less powerful than the ones the United States used back then, meaning the probe had to orbit the Earth several times to gain speed before embarking on its month-long journey. The lander, Vikram, which means "valor" in Sanskrit, detached from its propulsion module last week and has been sending images of the Moon's surface since entering lunar orbit on August 5. Now that Vikram has landed, a solar-powered rover will explore the surface and transmit data to Earth over its two-week lifespan. Ambitious program India is closing in on milestones set by global space powers such as the United States and Russia, conducting many of its missions at much lower price tags. The South Asian nation has a comparatively low-budget space program, but one that has grown considerably in size and momentum since it first sent a probe to orbit the Moon in 2008. The latest mission has a cost of $74.6 million -- far lower than those of other countries, and a testament to India's frugal space engineering. Experts say India can keep costs low by copying and adapting existing technology, and thanks to an abundance of highly skilled engineers who earn a fraction of their foreign counterparts' wages. In 2014, India became the first Asian nation to put a craft into orbit around Mars and is slated to launch a three-day crewed mission into Earth's orbit by next year. Wednesday's landing had been eagerly awaited by the Indian Space Research Organisation after the frustrating failure of its previous mission at the last hurdle in 2019. Back then, mission control lost contact with the Chandrayaan-2 lunar module moments before its slated landing. 'Very, very important' Former ISRO chief K. Sivan told AFP that India's efforts to explore the relatively unmapped lunar south pole would make a "very, very important" contribution to scientific knowledge. Only Russia, the United States and China have previously achieved controlled landings on the Moon. Russia launched a lunar probe in August -- its first in nearly half a century. If successful, it would have beaten Chandrayaan-3 by a matter of days to become the first mission from any nation to make a controlled landing around the south pole. But Luna-25 crashed on Saturday after an unspecified incident as it prepared to descend. Nuke an imperative
An economic breakout is possible for the Philippines amid the momentum that has been built up over the past two years post-pandemic. From a 5.6-percent growth in 2021, the economy surged to a 7.6 percent expansion last year, indicating that the economy may be catapulted to even higher growth by the end of the year. Strong growth is being achieved against the backdrop of a global economy being weighed down by high prices and the recurring threat of widespread recession. Asian economies are being relied on to provide the fuel that will jumpstart global commerce and the Philippines is expected to set the pace of development. While the prospects have never been better for the local economy, the consequence would be higher electricity demand that would be far more than what had been previously expected. The upsurge in electricity demand would require ramping up supply quickly and efficiently, which will be hobbled in turn by international commitments to cut down on carbon emissions precluding fossil fuel use. Multiple problems beset the move towards renewable energy, including cost, unpredictability, and lack of policy support. A limiting factor to growth is the lack of investments that unfortunately are being turned off by the cost of electricity in the Philippines, which is among the highest in the world. The shift to nuclear power becomes imperative as this technology’s development may address the country’s problems on price, adequacy of supply, and meeting environmental covenants. Resolving the power inefficiencies requires huge investments in infrastructure and alternative energy sources, experts said in a forum sponsored by the state think tank Philippine Institute for Development Studies. Even though a policy for a nuclear program was put in place during the term of former President Rodrigo Duterte under Executive Order 164, being awaited by investors is the updating of laws and the ratification of international legal instruments before they plunge into nuclear energy projects. The government may not be allowed to operate a nuclear facility nor revive the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant under the provisions of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act or EPIRA which limits the government to engaging in power generation only for missionary purposes. Thus, putting the government back in the power generation business needs amending the law. Experts at the forum said the country must address the energy problems squarely as a five-hour power outage inflicts about P556 million in economic losses. Successful economies like Singapore will find unacceptable the level of reliability of electricity in the country. The past few years saw the country logging power interruptions at an average of 10 days a year compared to Singapore’s one hour in 10 years. As a rule of thumb, the experts said that to reduce the level of brownouts to one day a year, the required capacity addition must be at least 1.164 gigawatts to serve 250 hours a year. Economic momentum depends on how quickly the problems are addressed, which makes nuclear technology imperative. A classic dilemma is how generating companies or gencos cannot recover the cost from the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market as a result of a secondary price cap at P6,245 per kilowatt-hour. Power producers are thus forced to agree to the market price even if they are operating at a loss, which will not be necessary for a nuclear facility that is not vulnerable to international price fluctuations. Giving nuclear power a shot at being a contributor to the energy mix, thus, will ease business apprehension on supply and pricing that should open up the investment tap for the country.
