The LTFRB board said this will make the minimum jeepney fare will be adjusted from P12 to P13. Provisional increase means the additional fare is temporary until the main petition for an increase is resolved. The LTFRB acted on the petition of Pasang Masda, the Association of Concerned Transport Organizations, and the Alliance of Transport Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines because of the continuing fuel hike. Amazon nations vow to fight deforestation
Amazon countries agreed to a roadmap promoting sustainable development, end of deforestation and fighting organized crime that fuels it at the conclusion of their summit in Belem, Brazil on Tuesday. The roadmap, however, exclude indigenous peoples’ demand for the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization to end illegal deforestation by 2030 and Colombia’s proposal to halt new oil exploration. “Achieving zero deforestation isn’t even enough to absorb all our carbon emissions,” Colombian President Gustavo Petro said. “The solution is to stop burning coal, oil and gas.” Representatives of Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela signed a joint declaration of the roadmap that the Brazil-based Climate Observatory coalition described as “just a list of promises.” Seeking to pressure the gathered heads of state in Belem, hundreds of environmentalists, activists and indigenous demonstrators marched to the venue of the conference, the first summit in 14 years for the eight-nation ACTO that was set up in 1995 by the South American countries that share the Amazon basin. Brazil President Luiz Inacio Lulada Silva, Petro, Bolivia’s Luis Arce and Peru’s Dina Boluarte were all present. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, absent due to an ear infection, sent Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, while Ecuador, Guyana and Suriname were represented by high-level officials. Arce urged wealthy nations to help fund efforts to protect the Amazon. “All the responsibility for the climate crisis and its consequences shouldn’t fall on our shoulders and our economies. We’re not the ones who created the crisis,” he said. The post Amazon nations vow to fight deforestation appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»
