Operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group have arrested an active cop and his cohort for selling illegal firearms and ammunition in Sto. Tomas City, Batangas. CIDG director Maj. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. on Friday identified the suspects as PSMS Carlito Chavez Escorsa Jr., PNP Personnel assigned at Sto. Tomas CPS and Ramil Funtanar Esperanzate, a former security guard, who were arrested by the operatives of CIDG Batangas Provincial Intelligence Unit, together with the PNP-IMEG and other local PNP operating units under the Oplan “Paglalansag Omega” in Barangay San Antonio, Sto. Tomas City. “These suspects are using social media or online communication to sell unlicensed firearms, which came to our knowledge so we conducted a buy-bust operation which was successfully carried out,” Caramat said. He added that the two suspects are facing charges for violation of RA 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. Seized from the suspects were one M16 Rifle (Colt); five pieces of long steel magazine for M16 rifle; two pieces of short steel magazine for M16 rifle; two pieces of ammunition guide for M16 rifle; 67 rounds of ammunition for M16 rifle; two pieces of cellular phones; one genuine P500 together with the boodle money; and one cloth bag.
