Delivery bag checklist before giving birth
Mary Mason once said, “A baby is something you carry inside you for nine months, in your arms for three years and in your heart till the day you die.” During a woman’s pregnancy, one of the things she meticulously prepares is her delivery bag. A delivery bag consists of new mother’s and baby’s essentials when the baby is born in a hospital or clinic. If you are nearing your delivery due date, around eight months, and haven’t had any idea what to bring, check out this basic list. [gallery size="large" columns="1" ids="200378,200381,200382"] For newborn Baru-baruan or newborn clothes set — At least two pieces of tops (either sleeveless or with sleeves), shorts or long pants, a pair of mittens and booties and a baby cap. Liquid soap — To wash off some fluids or vernix (the white, cheesy-looking substance that coats the newborn’s skin), a mild liquid soap is necessary. The baby’s first bath will be done by a lying in or hospital staff after giving birth. Diapers — Bring at least two to five pieces of newborn diapers. A good quality diaper should be super absorbent, gentle on baby’s skin, great fit and made of eco-friendly materials. Bib or small, soft cloth — This can come in handy to protect the baby’s delicate skin and clothes from spit-up, breastmilk and drool. Have at least three pieces. Receiving blanket — A thick blanket helps protect the baby from the cold air. Choose colors either blue or pink for easy gender identification. Plain white is also good. [caption id="attachment_200379" align="aligncenter" width="1600"] THE baby’s first bath will be done by the lying-in or hospital staff.[/caption] For mommy Dress — Bring at least two to five nursing clothes to make your breastfeeding journey more manageable and comfortable. It’s easy to put on, easy to loosen and easy to take off again since it doesn’t put any pressure on your postnatal body. Adult diapers — Carry at least six to eight pieces of adult diapers to help absorb leakage of excess blood after giving birth. Maternity pads — After the adult diaper phase, maternity pads give extra protection after child birth. Toiletries — These include liquid soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, bath towel, deodorant and cotton buds. You can add wet wipes and tissue, too. Slippers — Wear your slippers before going to the hospital or lying in. Scrunchie, comb and mirror — Stay clean to avoid any infection and you also feel better after giving birth. Comb your hair to look good as well. Liters of water — Be extra hydrated by drinking at least 16 cups of water a day to help you produce breastmilk round the clock. Documents and IDs — These are given requirements from the hospital or lying in, as well as your baby’s identification for birth certificate. Bring at least two government IDs. Speaking of government IDs, update your PhilHealth contributions to avail of maternity hospital coverage. Ideally, keep the delivery bag by your house door or any accessible place so it’s easy to grab and go when the time comes. Start ticking off this checklist now! Cainta hospital has new incubators
The local government of Cainta, Rizal has bought additional incubators for One Cainta Hospital to be used by newborn babies who need special care. “Our hospital has new incubators. We now have four incubators to be used by the babies who need special care,” Cainta municipal administrator Keith Nieto said. Nieto said the infant incubators are free to use by patients in the town’s hospital. “I have heard how difficult it is to transfer to hospitals because there are no incubators available for premature babies,” he said. Nieto said he himself was a premature baby when his mother gave birth to him. “This is for all premature babies who were born in our hospital,” he said. Malunggay ice cream for lactating mothers
As mothers dive into breastfeeding, this path is filled with triumphant moments and challenges. They’re not alone on this journey as Fog City Creamery offers a delicious helping hand -- lactation ice cream with malunggay. UNICEF Philippines’ 2017 data highlights the importance of early breastfeeding initiation, with an encouraging 57 percent of infants being breastfed within the first hour after birth. This initial support is crucial for both mothers and babies. However, the numbers dip to around 34 percent for continued exclusive breastfeeding from zero to six months. This disparity underscores many mothers’ challenges in maintaining exclusive breastfeeding, such as managing low milk supply and work demands. “We partnered with Vpharma and used its Mega -Malunggay and Herbilogy products to formulate our lactation ice cream flavors, enriched with galactagogues, such as fenugreek, oats, malunggay and malt, to enhance milk production, and achieve breastfeeding goals,” Edy Gamboa-Liu, managing director of Fog City Creamery, said. Beyond nourishment, Fog City Creamery’s lactation ice cream is a gesture of self-care. You are taking a moment for yourself amidst the beautiful chaos of motherhood, as every spoonful is a celebration of your dedication to your baby and a tribute to the incredible bond you’re building through breastfeeding. Fog City Creamery’s lactation ice cream flavors are Mega-Malunggay, Herbilogy Breastfeeding Milk Tea and Herbilogy Choco Malt Oat Praline with Fenugreek. These are available at P1 Power Plant Mall in Makati City or by order via 0917 883 3344 or fogcitycreamery@gmail.com. South Korean couple beat same-sex barriers to parenthood
South Korea has spent billions of dollars on policies to boost its birth rate. But when Kim Kyu-jin and her wife wanted to have a baby, they had to fly to Belgium. Nasino, 2 other political detainees acquitted
A Manila court has acquitted Reina Mae Nasino and two other political detainees Alma Moran and Ram Bautista nearly four years after being arrested. The court granted demurrer to evidence, which means that the cases against Nasino and two others are already dismissed. The court order states that the pieces of evidence were not presented in the court, and that the photographs cannot fill the full “evidentiary need” of the prosecution. “The pieces of seized evidence were neither marked nor identified in this Court. To prove their very existence, the prosecution heavily relied on the photographs taken by P/Cpl. Jacinto.” Another factor for the court’s decision was the inconsistent messages of prosecution witnesses where the firearms, ammunition and explosives were found. They added that the main witnesses were not presented in court. Only photographs of the seized firearms were presented in the court, and not the firearms itself. “For mere photographs might not fill in fully the evidentiary need of the Prosecution. Concededly, there is no evidence to speak of being the core of the offenses charged,” the court order added. The same court granted them their release order last December 2022, due to weak evidence. The local barangay chairman and the policeman who were tasked to do the photographs failed to identify the accused wherein the firearms were recovered. Reina Mae Nasino gave birth in 2020 while being detained. With Baby River only weighing 5.5 pounds and being separated immediately from her mother, she died before reuniting with her mother again. Nasino’s acquittal came nearly three years after Baby River’s death. The post Nasino, 2 other political detainees acquitted appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Former UK PM Boris Johnson becomes father again
Former UK prime minister Boris Johnson has become a father again, his wife Carrie said on Tuesday, with the couple's third child, and the ex-leader's eighth, born on 5 July. "Welcome to the world Frank Alfred Odysseus Johnson born 5th July at 9.15 a.m.," Carrie Johnson wrote on her Instagram page, accompanied by a picture of her holding her new baby. She joked "can you guess which name my husband chose?!" in reference to Johnson's well-known love of ancient Greek myths. "Am loving every minute of the sleepy baby bubble. Seeing my older two embrace their new brother with such joy and excitement has been the most wonderful thing. We are all very smitten," she added. Their first son Wilfred was born in April 2020, not long after Johnson was treated in hospital intensive care for Covid. Daughter Romy then arrived in December 2021, again when Johnson was still Britain's prime minister. He was ousted the following summer, amid a revolt within his ruling Conservatives after a series of scandals, including Covid lockdown-breaking parties at Downing Street. The 59-year-old Johnson quit as a Tory lawmaker last month after MPs found that he had lied to parliament over his knowledge of the parties. Johnson, who has been married three times, has four children from his second marriage to the lawyer Marina Wheeler, and now has three with Carrie, 35, a former Conservative Party media adviser whom he wed two years ago. The ex-leader has another child, a daughter, from an extra-marital affair. In September 2021, before Romy's birth and after years of speculation about how many children he had, Johnson confirmed to US TV network NBC in an interview that at that time he had six. Toni Fowler BFF Papi Galang gives birth to second baby via Water Delivery
Charisse “Papi” Galang, a member of Toni Fowler’s group called Toro Fam, gave birth to her second baby through a “water birth” with partner Harvey, who is Fowler’s cousin. They named their baby boy, Yabi. Their 2 ½-year-old daughter, Hapi, is also a social media fixture across the Toro Fam vlogs. Water birth is when the mother delivers her baby while submerged in a tub of warm water. It isn’t without risks, but this method, according to Web.MD, is said to ease pain and shortens the labor process. Galang documented the whole process in her vlog, Team Hapi. Galang used to be a member of Lisa Macuja’s Ballet Manila and was even featured in one of the Gifted Child series of ads by Promil when she was only 13 years old. She had trained in ballet since she was seven. It’s unclear when Papi quit classical ballet, but she then joined Toni Fowler’s sexy risqué dance group called R’Breezy. Toni Fowler often credits Papi as the person who informed her that people can earn money through YouTube vlogs. Papi used to open her vlogs as "your teenage mom", as she was only 17 years old when she gave birth to her first child in 2020. Cainta hospital acquires additional incubators
The local government of Cainta, Rizal has procured additional incubators for premature babies to be used in the LGU-run One Cainta Hospital, the town’s municipal administrator Keith Nieto said on Tuesday. “I bought a new incubator for our hospital. Arrived yesterday. Another one is coming,” Nieto said in a text message. “I pity those who give birth prematurely then had to transfer to other hospitals because the hospital had no incubator,” he added. Nieto himself was a premature baby when his mother gave birth to him. “This is for all premature (pre-term) babies who were born in our hospital. I was also a premature baby, almost couldn’t get through,” he said. “We can now also accommodate pre-terms, especially now that we have the pediatric ventilator. Right now, our three incubators are working in the hospital. Let’s just keep going,” the municipal administrator added. Cervical cancer: Understanding a fatal female disease
Health and beauty retailer Watsons encourages the public to stay protected against cervical cancer. In the Philippines, cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Filipino women, especially those aged 15 to 44 years old. About 7,897 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer yearly and from that number, 4,052 of them succumb to the disease. What’s more, cervical cancer also puts women at higher risk of miscarriage and infertility. Certain strains of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) are the main cause of cervical cancer. It’s the most common sexually transmitted infection. Sexually active people, even with just one partner, can get HPV. This can be passed on even when they have no signs or symptoms of the infection. Fortunately, HPV is a vaccine-preventable disease. Symptoms Cervical cancer starts in the cervix which connects the vagina, the birth canal to the upper part of the uterus. Commonly known as the womb, the uterus is where a baby grows during pregnancy. Anyone with a cervix is at risk for cervical cancer, and the risk grows with age as this occurs most often n people aged over 30. Unfortunately, cervical cancer may not show signs and symptoms in its early stages. More often than not, it’s already in the advanced stage when there’s bleeding or discharge from the vagina that is abnormal for you, including bleeding after sex. If you start noticing any of these signs, immediately see your doctor. The symptoms may be caused by something else, but the only way to know you have cervical cancer is to see your doctor. Prevention Schedule your regular screening tests with your doctor. The Pap test, commonly known as Pap smear, looks for precancerous cells. You can also have a regular HPV test since it looks for the virus that can cause these cell changes. But the greatest preventive measure against cervical cancer is the HPV vaccine. The HPV vaccine not only protects you against the types of HPV that cause cervical cancer but also the types of HPV that cause vaginal and vulvar cancers. This vaccination is recommended for preteens aged 11 to 12 years old but can be given at age nine, with your family doctor’s go signal. If you missed the HPV vaccine in your preteen years, you can still get it until 26 years of age. Although it’s not recommended for everyone older than 26, you can still talk to your doctor about it and get vaccinated until 45 years old. Cancer is a life-altering disease that everyone wishes to avoid. To ensure that the women in our lives live long and happy lives, we must encourage them to prioritize their health and choose to be protected against all preventable diseases. As every Filipino’s health partner, Watsons makes it easier for you to have a good quality of life. You can easily schedule your HPV vaccination through the Watsons Health Hub or visit any of the 1000+ Watsons stores nationwide and ask their pharmacists. On your vaccination day, a free doctor’s assessment is included in their service. Stay Protected Through Watson’s network, they’re able to provide different products and services to ensure overall health and wellness through accessible and affordable means. From 15 June to 15 July, Watsons Hub in SM North Edsa The Grand will offer free teleconsultation services to Watsons Pharmacy customers. In partnership with The Medical City, the teleconsultation can provide patients with enhanced remote care through in-depth, physical examinations, such as checking the heart rate, lung sounds, throat exam, ear exam and taking temperature. After getting your diagnosis, you can buy the doctor’s prescription at the Watsons Pharmacy beside the clinic. ‘Good things come with babies’
Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the 36-year-old leader of the main opposition Pheu Thai party, was given a rock star welcome as she returned to the campaign trail for the first time since giving birth less than two weeks ago. The daughter of billionaire ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra fulfilled a promise to get back on the campaign trail after giving birth on 1 May. Paetongtarn has been first or second in surveys of voters’ preferred choice of prime minister and her Pheu Thai party — the latest incarnation of the political movement founded by her father — is leading most opinion polls. “I believe that good things come with babies, so this is a blessing for my family,” she told reporters at Bangkok’s Praram 9 hospital on 3 May. A heavily pregnant Paetongtarn was a near-constant presence at campaign rallies in searing tropical heat until just a week before giving birth. The baby, named Prutthasin Sooksawas and nicknamed “Thasin” in honor of her father, is Paetongtarn’s second. Napisa Waitoolkiat, a political analyst at Naresuan University, said the pregnancy and birth might help win over swing voters. Emilie Pradichit, of feminist human rights organization Manushya, said she had sent out a strong message in a patriarchal society. “By actively participating in the electoral process, while also sharing about her pregnancy, she is breaking barriers, Pradichit told Agence France-Presse. “It challenges the notion that pregnancy and motherhood are incompatible with political careers.” Voters are predicted to deliver a heavy defeat to the government of former army chief and coup leader Prime Minister Prayut Chan-O-Cha, with Pheu Thai and the rival opposition Move Forward Party leading the final polls. Paetongtarn, the daughter of billionaire ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra — himself ousted in a coup — arrived to an electric atmosphere at Bangkok’s Impact arena. “May 14 will be a historic day where Thailand will change from a junta rule to a democratic rule,” she told around 10,000 supporters clad in Pheu Thai’s signature vivid scarlet colors. Sunday’s election is a clash between the opposition, fired up by the youth-led pro-democracy street protest movement of 2020, and the older conservative royalist-military establishment embodied by Prayut. Pheu Thai, which draws on a deep well of support from rural voters in the northeast, is well ahead in the polls, but winning most seats in the lower house is no guarantee of taking power. The prime minister will be chosen by the 500 elected members of parliament and 250-strong senate — whose members were appointed by Prayut’s junta, stacking the deck in favor of army-linked parties. The Shinawatra family’s bitter tussle with the royalist-military establishment has been at the center of Thailand’s rolling political drama. Thaksin was removed in a 2006 coup, and his sister Yingluck Shinawatra by Prayut’s putsch in 2014, and some analysts are skeptical that the military will release its grip on power now.
