Philandering Quezon City cop nabbed
Members of the anti-scalawag unit of the Philippine National Police have arrested an active Quezon City cop facing a charge of concubinage in Makati City last 30 September. In a belated report yesterday, Brig. Gen. Warren de Leon, chief of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group, said the suspect, Master Sergeant Ledesma Mollenido, 36, assigned at the Quezon City Police District was nabbed at a room at Airobez Hotel in Makati located along 5487 Boyle Street. Mollenido was arested by virtue of a warrant issued by Cavite judge Antonio Oyao Del Val last 29 September for concubinage. A P30,000 bail was set for the policeman’s temporary liberty. De Leon said the case was filed by Mollenido’s wife after discovering that her husband was cohabiting with another woman. He said Mollenido was arrested based on a tip-off of the hotel’s supervisor. Mollenido is currently detained at the IMEG custodial facility in Camp Crame “for documentation prior to the return of an arrest warrant to the issuing court,” De Leon said in a statement. BI arrested 3 foreign fugitives in Cavite
The Bureau of Immigration arrested one Taiwanese and two Nigerian nationals in the back-to-back operations it conducted this week. The BI Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU), Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Regional Office - National Capital Region, National Bureau of Investigation - Task Force Against Illegal Drugs (NBI-TFAID), and government intelligence units conducted a joint buy-bust operation on September 13 at a popular mall in Imus, Cavite, which led to the arrest of two Nigerian nationals who were identified as John Chukwuemeka Enuka, age 41, male; and Ugochukwu Christopher Nwabufo, age 31, male. The two were arrested after being caught selling illegal drugs in violation of Section 5 in relation to Section 26, paragraph B, and Section 11, Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, during the operation conducted by the authorities. The authorities seized a large stash of marijuana and heroin with an estimated street value of P8 million. The BI said that based on their records, Nwabufo has already overstayed his visa. He arrived in the Philippines in 2022 and never left the country. Menuka, Enuka has worked for a company in the country, but he failed to present his documents during checks. Moreover, on 14 September in General Trias, Cavite, BI-FSU operatives arrested a Taiwanese national identified as Chen Kai-Wun, a 55-year-old male. According to the BI, the Taiwanese authorities designated Chen as a wanted alien and declared him a fugitive from justice. Based on the report of the Taiwanese authorities, Chen is the subject of a warrant of arrest issued by the Shilin District Prosecutors Office in violation of the Controlling Guns, Ammunition, and Knives Act of Taiwan in May 2023. He is allegedly the leader of a notorious Taiwanese arms trafficking organization. Chen is also involved in facilitating the illegal entry of other Taiwanese fugitives into the country. Nwabufo and Enuka were detained at the PDEA National Office in Quezon City, while Chen will remain in the BI Warden Facility in Camp Bagong, Taguig City pending his deportation proceedings. Salilig hazing suspects plead ‘not guilty’
Two more suspects in the controversial hazing case of Adamson student John Matthew Salilig pleaded not guilty in a court in Biñan, Laguna on 26 July during the arraignments of their cases. Suspects Lester John Sus, aka “Biggie” and Armando Hernandez, aka “Tyler” filed their not-guilty pleas through a video conference. Sus was arrested in Biñan, Laguna on 14 July 2023 based on the warrant of arrest issued by Biñan RTC Branch 155 on 6 July. The same warrants were issued to alias Tyler and Justine Argay Fontanilla, also known as McGregor. Sus claimed that he was only invited in the initiation rites as an official of the San Pedro chapter of the Tau Gamma Fraternity. However, based on the evidence on the fraternity’s group chat, Sus was the one who varnished the paddles that will be used for the hazing. The anti-hazing complaints against Hernandez and Sus were filed by John Matthew’s older brother, John Michael, and Roi dela Cruz, another Adamson student who went through the initiation rites with Salilig. At least eight suspects are already in the custody of Binan City Custodial Facility — two are in CIDG’s custody while three are in the facility of NBI. The other remaining five suspects are still at large and are being tracked down by the authorities. To recall, Salilig was a chemical engineering student of Adamson University that was reported missing on 18 February 2023 and 10 days later, his body was found in a lot in a vacant lot in Barangay Malagasang 1-G in Imus City, Cavite. 4 flag-tearing aliens deported soon — BI
Four foreign nationals who were detained for disrespecting the Philippine flag in Ternate, Cavite, had been turned over by the Philippine National Police to the Bureau of Immigration. The three Pakistanis and one Romanian were arrested by the PNP in Ternate on 26 June after they were seen by a member of the Philippine Marine Corps pulling down a Philippine flag. ‘Any foreign nationals staying here must respect our country and our laws.’ They then took turns tearing it, and throwing it away in violation of Republic Act 8491, or the Flag Code of the Philippines. BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said that the BI will pursue a deportation case against the four foreigners. “Any foreign nationals staying here must respect our country and our laws,” Tansingco said. “Foreigners destroying symbols of our country show the utmost disrespect and do not deserve our hospitality.” The four foreigners have been added to the BI blacklist, which will prevent them from re-entering the country. They have all undergone preliminary investigations and have been committed to the BI’s Taguig detention facility while their deportation processes are ongoing. Dela Rosa calls on a ‘Mike Sy’ to surface, divulge illegal drug trade
Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Tuesday called on an alleged drug personality named "Mike Sy" to surface and divulge the supposed involvement of high-ranking police officials in the pilferage of 990 kilos of shabu seized in a buy-bust operation in October last year. In an interview with reporters shortly after the adjournment of the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs hearing, Dela Rosa said someone who is acquainted with Sy approached him and told him Sy was willing to cooperate in the Senate investigation on the P6.7 billion shabu mess. Dela Rosa believes Sy's testimony can also shed light on the alleged involvement of Philippine National Police members in illegal drug activities. “He wants to testify to the committee because he wants to clear his name--labeled as the number one shabu personality in the country. He wants to tell us that there are more big-time drug dealers than him. He admitted that he is involved in illegal drug business,” he added. Sy, however, allegedly withdrew his attempt to join the hearings after his handler “prevented him” from divulging his real identity. During the last hearing, Dela Rosa asked Lt. Col. Arnulfo Ibañez, superior of arrested PSgt. Rodolfo Mayo Jr. if he was the handler of Sy. Ibañez denied that he was Sy’s handler, adding that he doesn’t have information on the whereabouts of the alleged drug personality since he was detained in the Senate after being cited for contempt. The senator appealed to Sy to come out and provide testimony. “Mike Sy, I know that you are monitoring right now in this hearing. Your world is getting smaller. You know, the handler that advised you to hide and throw away your cell phone, believe him, because one day he will be the one who will kill you,” Dela Rosa said, as he vowed to protect Sy if he comes out to "tell the truth." Dela Rosa likewise appealed to PNP Chief Benjamin Acorda Jr. and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to locate Sy’s whereabouts. “His location will just be two, either he was in Cavite or in Occidental Mindoro. Please conduct a manhunt operation. If you will not capture him, a lot of shabu shipments will remain. He is a player. He might be one of those offering a 30-percent cut in drug operations,” he said. Dela Rosa identified Sy as one of the "big-time"players in the illegal drug trade in the country. Sy is included in PDEA's list of drug personalities. The Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs closed the investigation on the alleged cover-up of high-ranking police officials and officers on the P6.7-billion Manila drug buy-bust operation on Tuesday. Dela Rosa said he is willing to reopen the case if Sy will surface and will testify about the involvement of police officers in illegal drug activities. The panel will now start crafting the committee reports, Dela Rosa added. At least three PNP officials, including Ibañez, Lt.Col Glenn Gonzales and MSgt. Lorenzo Catarata, are still detained in the Senate after being cited for contempt. P12-M stolen jewelry recovered
The Manila Police District announced on Sunday that it has solved the case of a P12-million robbery in a Chinatown jewelry store and according to authorities, the robbery was an inside job perpetrated by the store’s saleslady and her live-in partner. Initial reports disclosed that the robbery happened on 6 May at the Golden Valley Building in Sta. Cruz, Manila. Police said that the saleslady — identified as Cheril Vandidato — reported that a lone gunman robbed the store at gunpoint. The saleslady said that the gunman took a small green eco bag and filled it with gold jewelry before fleeing on a motorcycle. However, police doubted Vandidato’s story because she did not report the robbery immediately. Authorities said that operatives from the MPD went to her house in Naic, Cavite and arrested her live-in partner, Jeffrel Logronio. A search of their house yielded the stolen jewelry, a .45 caliber pistol, a helmet, an orange shirt and the green eco bag. Vanditato and Logronio are now detained at the MPD-PS 11 and they will be charged with qualified theft at the office of the Manila prosecutor for inquest proceedings.
