Bong Go lauds Super Health Center groundbreaking in Biliran
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go commended the Department of Health and the local government of Biliran, including Biliran town Mayor Myra Cabrales and Congressman Gerry Boy Espina, for their successful groundbreaking of the Super Health Center in the province on Tuesday, 17 October. Go underscored the pivotal function that Super Health Centers can fulfill in alleviating the strain on hospitals, enabling the early detection of diseases, and delivering vital healthcare services like primary care and medical consultations to the local community. “Ano po itong Super Health Center? It’s a medium type of a polyclinic. Super Health Centers shall provide convenient access to basic healthcare delivery, offering a wide range of medical services to communities. These Super Health Centers provide services such as database management, outpatient care, birthing facilities, isolation units, diagnostic services (including laboratory, X-ray, and ultrasound), pharmacies, and ambulatory surgical units. Additional services include eye, ear, nose, and throat (EENT) care, oncology centers, physical therapy and rehabilitation centers, as well as telemedicine for remote diagnosis and treatment. “Sa ating pakikipagtulungan sa DOH, LGUs at mga kapwa nating mambabatas, magkakaroon po ng 307 Super Health Center sa year 2022 at 322 na Super Health Center sa year 2023 sa buong Pilipinas. Marami pa po ’yan sa buong Pilipinas, nakakalat po ‘yan sa mga strategic areas as identified by DOH,” highlighted Go. Apart from Biliran town, the senator also supported the construction of another Super Health Center in Naval in the same province. Furthermore, the senator also encouraged individuals with health concerns to make use of the medical assistance programs accessible at the Malasakit Center situated in Biliran Provincial Hospital. The Malasakit Centers serve as one-stop shops designed to assist particularly poor and indigent patients in minimizing their medical costs to the lowest feasible level through collaboration with various agencies offering medical assistance programs. This initiative was institutionalized under Republic Act No. 11463, a law principally authored and sponsored by Go in the Senate. Presently, there are 159 Malasakit Centers spread across the country, and they have collectively provided support to more than seven million Filipinos, as reported by the Department of Health (DOH). Moreover, echoing President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.’s priority of bringing specialized medical services closer to other parts of the country, Go highlighted that he has principally sponsored and is one of the authors of the Regional Specialty Centers Act which was recently enacted into law. The law mandates the establishment of regional specialty centers within existing DOH regional hospitals. It stands as a testament to the commitment of the government to uplift the nation's health infrastructure and bring actual medical services closer to the Filipino people. “Ipagpatuloy natin na ilapit ang serbisyong medikal mula gobyerno sa ating mga kababayang mahihirap na walang ibang matakbuhan. The more we should support their health needs, the more na mag-invest po tayo sa ating healthcare system,” Go said. “Huwag po natin silang pahirapan. Marami po sa mga kababayan natin sa iba’t ibang sulok ng Pilipinas na wala silang sariling health facility. Kaya importante na mailapit natin ang serbisyong medikal mula gobyerno sa mga taong nangangailangan nito,” he stressed. As vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go aims to boost the development of the town. He extended his support for several projects, including road improvements in Barangay Villa Consuelo, and the construction of flood control structures in Brgys. Calumpang, Caraycaray, and Larrazabal, and the construction of multipurpose buildings in Brgys. Capinahan, Haguikhikan, Calumpang, and Larrazabal. DENR, partners to implement Project TRANSFORM in 2 Bataan areas
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources over the weekend added the municipality of Abucay and the city of Balanga in Bataan to its roster of Project TRANSFORM recipients. Project TRANSFORM is a DENR program that engages the whole of society in implementing programs to alleviate poverty, strengthen community resilience, and promote strong public-private partnerships in the country. Through the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on 31 July, the DENR has forged two Project TRANSFORM partnerships where the DENR and public and private partners will implement the Mangrove Adoption and Protection Project in the two areas aimed to enhance the province’s resiliency amid natural disasters and climate change impacts. Project TRANSFORM or Transdisciplinary Approach for Resilient and Sustainable Communities through Multistakeholder Engagement was launched in the municipalities of Limay, Mariveles, and Orion in the same province as pilot sites in Luzon on 9 May. TRANSFORM aims to bring together best practices from the government and private sectors to create an inclusive, science-based, and data-driven template that all stakeholders, partners, and local government units may utilize to combat the escalating climate emergency. Bataan Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” S. Garcia III said that Project TRANSFORM is a “timely and welcome catalyst” in the province’s journey towards resiliency and growth that results in stable and empowered families. The provincial government of Bataan has been pushing for the rehabilitation of mangrove forests as part of its primary and continuing efforts through the aid of various organizations. The Bataan province, composed of 11 municipalities and 1 city is surrounded by the West Philippine Sea and Manila Bay. With a coastline of approximately 177 kilometers, mangroves play a vital role in the protection of Bataan against natural disasters as these serve as a natural barrier against storms and floods. Furthermore, it provides habitats for various marine species such as fish, prawns, and crabs, which consequently provides income for fisherfolks. Mangroves are also known to significantly aid in the fight against climate change as they can capture and store carbon four times greater than other tropical forests. Under the partnership, the DENR will collaborate with the San Miguel Foundation Inc. and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. for the adoption and protection of mangrove areas in the municipality of Abucay and the city of Balanga respectively. The SMFI and SM Prime Holdings, Inc., through their corporate social responsibility programs, will provide the necessary funding as well as participate in all mangrove planting activities in the municipalities of Abucay and Balanga City respectively. The maintenance, conservation, and enhancement of the adopted mangroves forests will also be supported by the Bataan provincial government, Abucay and Balanga LGUs, DENR Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office-Bataan, and DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office-Dinalupihan. The Abucay Mangrove and Adoption Project is also in partnership with the community-based organization Samahan ng Mananahong ng Sitio Bakawan. It will be carried out in Sitio Bakawan in Brgys. Wawa and Calaylayan, involving an estimated area of five hectares suitable for mangrove plantation. Meanwhile, the Balanga City Mangrove Adoption and Protection Project will be in Brgy. Puerto Rivas, Ibaba comprises an estimated area of eight hectares and is in partnership with the community-based organization Tinig ng Mandaragat. Specifically, activities under the agreement include the identification of mangrove areas to be protected and areas to be enhanced and rehabilitated, collection of mangrove propagules, the conduct of enrichment planting in the adopted site, provision of technical assistance in mangrove protection and evaluation, coordination with concerned national government agencies, and the conduct of information, education, and communication related to mangrove protection and the governing environmental laws. Under DENR Administrative Order 15-90, the government promotes the conservation, protection, rehabilitation, and development of mangrove resources in the country and the active participation of organizations in its utilization and development. Bong Go aids indigents, inaugurate two new multipurpose buildings in QC
Senator Bong Go personally extended aid to disadvantaged communities in Barangay Payatas, Quezon City on Thursday, 15 June. Held at Doña Aurora covered court, Go and his team distributed grocery packs, vitamins, snacks, and masks to 1,000 indigent residents. They also gave select individuals new pairs of shoes, cellular phones, bicycles, and balls for basketball and volleyball. Prior to the relief activity, Go also attended the inauguration of two multipurpose buildings in Brgys. Commonwealth and Payatas. As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, he was instrumental in securing the necessary funding for the construction of these projects. In his speech, Go reminded everyone to stay cautious following a recent earthquake, saying, “Bago ‘yan gusto ko lang pong ipaalala sa inyo mag-ingat tayo dahil bago lang po nag-earthquake.” Go also emphasized the importance of safety and urged citizens to heed the government’s instructions in times of emergencies. “Pero ingat tayo ha, kung ano ‘yung paalala ng ating gobyerno, ni Mayor. Kung lumabas kaagad sa ligtas na lugar sundin po natin ang paalala ng inyong mga local government officials ha, nakikiusap ako sa inyo para ligtas kayo,” he urged. On Thursday, Mindoro Island experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale. The impact of the seismic activity was felt in Metro Manila, as well as in the neighboring provinces. As the country is prone to various calamities such as typhoons, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions, Go stressed that his proposed Senate Bill No. 188, which seeks to establish the Department of Disaster Resilience, would centralize efforts, streamline coordination, and ensure a more swift and effective response to emergencies. To complement the DDR, Go also filed SBN 193, or the Mandatory Evacuation Center Act, which aims to ensure the availability of safe and clean evacuation centers in every city, municipality, and province across the country. Meanwhile, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go then encouraged the public to avail of medical assistance from any of the 11 Malasakit Centers in the city. Malasakit Centers in Quezon City are located at the Lung Center of the Philippines, Novaliches District Hospital, Philippine Heart Center, Philippine Children’s Medical Center, National Kidney and Transplant Institute, East Avenue Medical Center, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Philippine Orthopedic Center, National Children’s Hospital, Philippine National Police General Hospital, and Quirino Memorial Medical Center. Go is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463 or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. To date, 158 operational centers have helped more than seven million Filipinos nationwide, according to the DOH. “Sa mga pasyente, lapitan niyo lang ang Malasakit Center dahil para ‘to sa inyo. Kung may hospital bill kayo, nandiyan ang mga ahensya ng gobyerno na tutulong para mabayaran ito,” said Go. Go also continues to bring government medical services closer to the grassroots as he advocated for the establishment of Super Health Centers in various parts of the country. In Quezon City, necessary funds have been allocated for the DOH to construct Super Health Centers in six different barangays. The senator also sponsored in the Senate the passage of RA No. 11501 in 2020, increasing the QMMC’s bed capacity from 500 to 1,000 beds; and RA No. 11561 in 2021, increasing the EAMC’s bed capacity from 600 to 1,000 beds. He likewise supported the rehabilitation of the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center and VMMC road networks, road and drainage improvement works along the Quirino Highway and P. Dela Cruz Road, construction of an advanced cardiac catheterization laboratory and expansion of the new emergency room building at the EAMC, and construction of a five-story multipurpose building at Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo. Ending his message, Go expressed his gratitude to local officials, including Mayor Joy Belmonte, Councilor Mikey Belmonte, Councilor Godie Liban, and others, for their unwavering dedication and service to the people they represent. “Bilang inyong senador, tutulong ako sa abot ng aking makakaya at isusulong ko ang mga proyekto, panukala at adhikain na makakatulong sa bawat Pilipino. To the best of my ability, aalalay ako sa pag-unlad ng inyong komunidad,” Go stressed. “Sa mga kababayan natin dito, alam kong mahirap pa rin ang panahon ngayon pero ipagpatuloy niyo lang ang inyong suporta sa gobyerno at tuloy lang din ang malasakit natin sa bawat isa. Tayo ay makakaahon din mula sa krisis na ito,” he encouraged. On the same day, Go also extended his assistance to indigent residents from Marikina City, and Rodriguez and San Mateo, Rizal. Bong Go supports fire victims in Pasig City
In an effort to reinforce the Philippines' fire protection response and preparedness, Senator Bong Go expressed his unwavering dedication to advocating for measures and initiatives aimed at bolstering the country's firefighting capabilities. On Friday, 14 April, the senator and his team distributed aid to 212 households that were affected by a recent fire in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City. In his message, Go reminded the fire victims, “Ang pera po kikitain natin magsipag lang tayo. Ngunit ang perang kikitain ay hindi po nabibili ang buhay. A lost life is a lost life forever. Kaya pangalagaan po natin ang buhay ng bawat isa.” He also urged everyone to take care of their well-being and the lives of others, as every burned house affects not only the homeowners but also their neighbors. Go then cited that through Republic Act No. 11589 or the Bureau of Fire Protection Modernization Act, which he primarily authored and co-sponsored, the agency is being equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to boost its efficiency and responsiveness. Held at Pinagbuhatan High School, Go personally led the distribution of grocery packs, vitamins, masks, snacks, and shirts to the victims. Shoes and balls for basketball and volleyball were also provided to select beneficiaries. Meanwhile, staff from the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided financial assistance to the affected families to help hasten their recovery from the damages caused by the fire. To further assist family members with health concerns, Go, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, advised the beneficiaries to visit any of the 31 Malasakit Centers in Metro Manila, including one at Rizal Medical Center in the city, if they need medical assistance. To date, there are 157 Malasakit Centers that have helped over seven million Filipinos nationwide, according to the DOH. Go is the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019. Meanwhile, Go reiterated his commitment to support the establishment of more Super Health Centers across the country. Through the collective efforts of fellow lawmakers, sufficient funds had been allocated under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program of the DOH for 307 Super Health Centers in 2022 and 322 in 2023. DOH, the lead implementing agency, identifies the strategic areas where they will be constructed. He reminded them that public service is a service to God and that he and his team will continue to serve the people because he believes in the value of serving others. “Minsan lang tayo dadaan sa mundong ito. Kung ano pong kabutihan o tulong na pwede nating gawin sa ating kapwa ay gawin na po natin ngayon dahil hindi na po tayo babalik sa mundong ito. Iyan po ang totoo,” he concluded. As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go has also supported various initiatives in the city, such as the improvement of RMC through the acquisition of medical equipment and the construction of a seven-story multi-specialty building inside the center. On the same day, Go’s team conducted a separate aid activity for fire victims in Brgys. Sta. Lucia and Kalawaan in Pasig City.
