Anne Curtis shares thoughts on sudden changes in noontime
It is no secret that the past weeks left avid television viewers in awe after shocking transitions took place on noontime. Eat Bulaga still continues to run on GMA with its new hosts after the legit dabarkads left the show and found their new home in TV5 where E.A.T. currently airs. As for "It's Showtime", they can still be watched through various online platforms and on GTV channel after declining TV5's offer to be moved in an afternoon timeslot. GTV channel is a free-to-air television network wholly owned subsidiary of GMA Network Inc. Since its 1st airing on GTV channel, many Kapuso stars have set foot on the It's Showtime stage. The Multimedia Superstar Anne Curtis expressed her thoughts on the recent abrupt change that happened on noontime during an interview with celebrity reporter Nelson Canlas. She said, "Syempre at one point sobrang lungkot namin na parang ano'ng nangyari? Saan na ba tayo pupunta? Ito na ba 'yun? But the thing about "It's Showtime" is, as a family we know that we will never give up in trying to find ways to make our madlang people happy. And we're just so grateful na every time the door closes, there's always someone to open a new door for us, and this time it was GTV. At sobra kaming nagpapasalamat because it came at the perfect time." The post Anne Curtis shares thoughts on sudden changes in noontime appeared first on Daily Tribune......»»

Gozon declares TV war over
“The TV War is finally over,” declared Atty. Felipe Gozon, Chairman and CEO of GMA Network, Inc. as he sat next to Carlo Katigbak, president and CEO of ABS-CBN at a contract signing that will allow “It’s Showtime” to air on GMA’s GTV channel. Ironically what brought these circumstances to a head was the internal fight between TAPE, the producers of Eat Bulaga and its hosts and talents, that sent the show to ABC 5, where “It’s Showtime” had been currently airing. It was unacceptable for the people behind “It’s Showtime” to be bumped off from their noontime slot to an afternoon slot, and thus this noontime musical chairs ended oddly in peace between erstwhile bitter rivals ABS-CBN and GMA Network. Vice Ganda has been quoted as saying he was a loyal soldier, “Sabi ko personally kung ako siyempre ayoko nung 4:30 timeslot kasi 'Showtime' is a noontime brand, it will destroy the brand..Pero since hindi naman ako may-ari ng 'Showtime,' at sundalo lang naman ako, sabi ko kung saan mapupunta 'yung programa, hindi ko sila iiwan, sasamahan ko sila," he added. As for the move to GTV, Vice Ganda has nothing but gratitude for the network, "I'm just very hopeful, very grateful and very excited." The thawing had been in the works for quite some time since the government denied the ABS-CBN a franchise, and the network has been forced to look at other channels to air their content on Free TV. Earlier, the much-ballyhooed collaboration between the networks had already produced a well-received and highly watched drama “Unbreak My Heart” that currently airs on several streaming channels from both homegrown and third party streamers. The actors from both networks have expressed excitement at the new combinations that will allow them to work with each other from now on. Coco Martin leads medical mission for Quiapo Muslims
Kapamilya Primetime King Coco Martin spearheaded a medical mission to the Muslim community in Quiapo, Manila on Sunday morning, 25 June, accompanied by the FPJ’s Batang Quiapo crew. The event was organized by Dreamscape Entertainment for ABS-CBN. Martin, in addition to playing the lead in the hit series FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, also serves as director and one of its producers. The medical mission was the actor and his team’s way of giving back to the Quiapo community that has welcomed and accommodated them during the series’ location shoots. [caption id="attachment_149395" align="aligncenter" width="525"] ASIDE from Coco Martin, the other cast members of 'Batang Quiapo' also took part in the medical mission.[/caption] Martin recently confirmed the longtime rumor that he and actress Julia Montes are in a relationship. “Napakasarap ng pakiramdam namin dahil 12 years na kaming magkasama, pero pareho pa rin tulad ng dati. Nilo-look forward namin kapag may project na magkasama kami and then kapag may pagkakataon, nakakalabas kami, nakikita kami ng mga tao pero name-maintain namin ang privacy sa buhay namin (It’s a great feeling that we’ve been together for 12 years, but like always, we still look forward to working together. And whenever there’s an opportunity, we go out and people see us, but we still maintain our privacy),” he said in a TV Patrol interview. Exciting noontime TV battle ahead
Eat Bulaga, as of this writing, still airs on GMA 7 at 12 noon. All parties with a stake on the trademark Eat Bulaga are still waiting for the decision of the Intellectual Property Office as to who has the exclusive right to use that trademark for a TV show. That’s why TAPE Inc. is able to continue using Eat Bulaga! as the title of its blocktime high-noon show on GMA7. At the TV5 media conference that introduced Tito, Vic and Joey and the “legit” Dabarkads as hosts of the network’s own noontime show — which may or may not be called Eat Bulaga! as well — De Leon and Vic Sotto tearfully asserted they owned the right to the show title. Vic further asserted that no other title is acceptable to him for their TV5 noontime show. [caption id="attachment_148187" align="aligncenter" width="755"] PHOTOGRAPHS COURTESY OF IG/JOEY DE LEON | ‘EAT Bulaga!’ dabarkads with TV5 executives.[/caption] De Leon, recovering his sense of humor, quipped that they can make history again by running a show with titles they can change every day. Ex-Senate President Tito Sotto had earlier boasted that at 44 years old, Eat Bulaga! may be the oldest show not only in the Philippines but also in the world. The ex-senator declared that they would do everything to get back the show title Eat Bulaga! The title belongs to TVJ and the public has known it for 44 years, he said. But as for the title of their new show? “Surpresa pa ang titulo,” blurted out the trio, who are now co-producers of the new show. What an exciting noontime battle: It’ll be TAPE’s Eat Bulaga! on GMA 7 versus TVJ’s still-to-be-named noon show on TV5 versus ABS-CBN’s It’s Showtime on GTV (Channel 11) and A2Z — all fighting for viewership, ratings and advertising revenues. [caption id="attachment_148188" align="aligncenter" width="770"] PHOTOGRAPH COURTESY OF IT’S SHOWTIME | ‘IT’S Showtime,’ now on GTV.[/caption] The noontime slot is considered primetime by many advertisers as this is when many Filipinos — housewives, drivers, kasambahay, Overseas Filipino Workers, young kids — are glued to their TV sets to get entertained while having lunch. The new war is a win-win situation for the Kapuso, Kapatid and Kapamilya organizations. But the Jalosjos family’s TAPE is the likely loser in this stiff competition. The Romeo Jalosjos-led production company has a blocktime agreement with GMA 7 until end of 2024 for the noon to 2:30 time slot. This means TAPE has to pay GMA for the two-and-a-half-hour airtime regardless of whether it gets enough ad revenues. Thus, GMA has nothing to lose in this arrangement. Wide-ranging partnerships define the new ABS-CBN
Here’s proof that ABS-CBN has been seriously taking itself in its new avowed role as a content supplier to the entertainment industry as well as online media: Since May of last year, the Lopez enterprise has been a major partner of Pinoy Interactive Entertainment, a company that has begun to make its mark on the entertainment scene with its acronym PIE. Billed as the country’s first multiscreen, real-time interactive channel, PIE is a collaborative project of ABS-CBN, BEAM, 917 Ventures and KROMA Entertainment, which boasts of being “tradigital,” meaning engaged in creating traditional and digital outputs. BEAM, KROMA and 917 Ventures are all under Globe Telecom. ABS-CBN’s involvement with PIE is overseen by the towering (as in basketball player-tall) Jamie Lopez, the company’s head of digital business. Ian Monsod, once known as a theater actor and music man, heads BEAM. He is the son of the famous and influential couple Christian Monsod, one of the framers of the 1987 Constitution, and renowned economist Winnie Monsod. [caption id="attachment_137021" align="aligncenter" width="896"] PHOTOGRAPHS COURTESY KROMA ENTERTAINMENT | Kroma Entertainment CEO Ian Monsod (second from left) and Kroma head of Broadcasting Jil Go with ABS-CBN chief of staff Connie Lopez and PIE Channel head Alex Asuncion.[/caption] The PIE company was launched last year to media people and to v/bloggers only through a Zoom conference. To mark its first anniversary this year, the company held a face-to-face conference with the media and v/bloggers at Pandan Asian Restaurant in QC, just some blocks away from the ABS-CBN studios. Interaction with the company’s shows is mainly through digital devices. On its second year, the interactive channel promises a platform where people can increase their chances of winning while having fun by simply clicking on their mobile phones or engaging via the website. Or as its tagline puts it: “Pindot PIEnalo ka dahil kada pindot, PIEnalo ka more!” ABS-CBN stars Stars from ABS-CBN topbill many of PIE’s shows. For instance, Sinong Manok Mo? is headlined by momshie and pop-culture icon Jolina Magdangal, joined by It’s Showtime “Ate Girl” Jackie Gonzaga and comedian Eric Nicolas. [caption id="attachment_137022" align="aligncenter" width="525"] JOLINA Magdangal and Eric Nicolas.[/caption] Sino’ng Manok Mo? airs Saturday and Sunday nights, 7 to 8 p.m. A co-host in the show is Paris-born and -raised Ralph Malibunas, a contestant on ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Big Brother, where he revealed that he didn’t mind working as a caregiver and park attendant for some years. The seemingly suddenly famous Jennica Garcia of the ABS-CBN series Dirty Linen cannot be happier that Pie Channel recently also gave her a chance to co-host Ur Da Boss with Melai Cantiveros (Magdangal’s co-host in the morning show Magandang Buhay). [caption id="attachment_137025" align="aligncenter" width="896"] MELAI Cantiveros and Jennica Garcia.[/caption] Garcia said she felt un-ready to be a host as she had not done that kind of job before. Her smart solution: “Iniisip ko na lang na (I just think that) for this show, I’m going to be the Gen Z version of Jean Garcia.” Jean Garcia is her mom, whose showbiz fame began as one of the hosts of the well-loved 80’s and 90’s musical variety youth show on GMA 7, German Moreno’s That’s Entertainment. Even Jennica’s father, then-actor Jigo Garcia, was a That’s Entertainment mainstay. Ur Da Boss airs Monday to Friday, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dramatic actress Charlie Dizon seems to be not getting major follow-up exposures after she made waves as an obsessed fan in the film The Paulo Avelino Story. So let’s all hope her being made a mainstay in the PIE show Mga Kwento ng Dilim can lead to a series on ABS-CBN, PIE or elsewhere. Angeline Quinto, meanwhile, hosts The Chosen One (TCO): Kakatacute an interactive piliserye with comedian Chad Kinis. The show’s weekly elimination show is hosted by actor Jameson Blake and reality show alum Karina Bautista. [caption id="attachment_137023" align="aligncenter" width="896"] KARINA Bautista and Jameson Blake.[/caption] The channel also has a teen narrative offering, Para Sa All, headlined by Mutya Orquia this month. Another teen show, Pak na Pak! is hosted by Vivoree, Aljon Mendoza, Anji Salvacion, Jeremy G., Igi Boy Flores, Sheena Belarmino and Gello Marquez. Then there’s the daily show Matching-Matching Mini Game, which uses customized PIE cards inspired by the classic Filipino card game ungguy-ungguyan. For late sleepers, PIE offers the adult show SPG: Saktong Pang Gabi, a naughty evening talk show topbilled by comedian Negi and supported by MNL48’s Rans Rifol and actor-model Argel Saycon. [caption id="attachment_137024" align="aligncenter" width="896"] RANS Rifol and comedian Negi.[/caption] Expanding content reach ABS-CBN Corp. has declared that it is keen on forging more partnerships to expand content reach in a bid to secure its financial future. “We’re willing to work with any partner, whether in free, pay TV or online streaming,” said Carlo Katigbak, president and CEO of ABS-CBN Corp, during the company’s annual stakeholder meeting. Hence, it’s taken on partnerships here and abroad, such as with Amazon Prime Video to syndicate a TV series, and a distribution deal with India’s MX Player. It also has partnerships with Netflix, Hong Kong-based Viu and Youtube. “We decided to shed off all assets not relevant to storytelling… The new ABS-CBN is learning to partner with other platforms,” Katigbak added. ABS-CBN’s partnerships on the domestic front include a milestone deal with its media rival, GMA Network, Inc. The two signed a deal to produce a teleserye, and the Kapuso network can now use ABS-CBN’s iWantTFC streaming platform to widen its international reach. ABS-CBN has also inked content partnerships with the Pangilinan-owned TV5, PIE Channel, AMBS and the A2Z channel founded by Bro. Eddie Villanueva. The company managed to trim its net losses in 2022, now at P2.63 billion after posting a P5.67-billion loss in the preceding year. Behind the Scenes: The Heroes of ABS-CBN Sports
While the general public sees or hears the finished product on-air or online, most do not witness or appreciate those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes at ABS-CBN Sports. As we commemorate National Heroes Day in the country on the final day of ABS-CBN Sports, it is only fitting to acknowledge and thank those behind-the-scenes heroes who have been part of the amazing journey (DISCLAIMER: I may have left out some names, but it is purely unintentional so my apologies). PVL scrambles to find new home as ABS-CBN Sports shuts down
With its broadcasting partner ABS-CBN shut down, the Premier Volleyball League is left with no other option but to look for another home. League organizer Sports Vision president Ricky Palou in an interview on Noli Eala’s Power & Play on Saturday said that the PVL is in the process of negotiating with other available networks to air its games. Beleaguered media giant ABS-CBN was forced to close most of its business units including its sports arm, ABS-CBN Sports, along with the S+A channel, which airs the PVL and other major sports leagues on free TV, after the Congress denied a fresh 25-year mandate on its broadcasting franchise that expired last May. It left the majority of ABS-CBN’s 11,000 employees jobless starting August 31. “This gives us no other option but to look for another network to cover our games. We are in the process of doing that,” said Palou. ABS-CBN S+A welcomed the defunct Shakey’s V-League in 2016 which for the first time aired the games of the 13-year old league live starting from the elimination round. V-League was rebranded to PVL the following year and was made available via livestream for a wider audience reach. The PVL had three successful seasons under ABS-CBN. PVL was supposed to start its fourth season last May but was postponed due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. According to Palou, Sports Vision will consult the teams regarding the recent developments and the league’s next steps. “We’re also consulting the teams on what they think about this and if they have any preference on who’s going to be our coverer,” said Palou. "When we finalize all these details we’ll talk to the different networks and see who’s willing to cover our games.” As for network options, Palou said that nothing is concrete yet. TV5 is the broadcasting partner of PVL’s rival league Philippine Superliga since 2015. “That’s as far as what we’ve got so far,” he said. “We’ve made contacts with some of the networks but nothing is definite yet.” --- Follow this writer on Twitter, @fromtheriles.....»»
